Segregation of Furries and bronies?
Alright, I have been curious of this for a long time.
Is a square a rectangle? Yes, it is still 4 sides intersected by 90 degree angles.
Is a rectangle a square? Not always, only if the 4 sides are of equal length.
So, is a brony a furry? Yes, they are a fan of anthropomorphic animals.
Is a furry a brony? Not always, not everyone that is a fur watchers/likes MLP.
So with this, why is there so much hate from bronies to furries? I just dont understand this.
I just found out today, one of the largest MLP conventions (The largest on the West Coast of the US) Everfree NW is going to ban furries from the convention this year. No fursuit will be allowed in the convention unless it is directly MLP related.
I understand that it is their con, and they have the right to do this... But WHY!?!? I have seen MLP suits/cosplays at ever furry convention with out a second blink. No one hates them for it. So why on earth wold anyone, much less a convention with over 2200 attendies. MANY OF WHICH IDENTIFY AS BRONY AND FURRY, ban furries from its convention?
If anyone can help shed some light on this, I would love to know.
PS... very tempted to buy a day pass for the con and suit around the hotel. Since it is hotel property and not convention space, it can not be banned. I want to stand against this. It just seems so so wrong....

As for your question: I have no clue. I'd like to say it's because they want to keep it MLP related, but it's probably not it. Maybe they're just assholes. Perhaps they'll provide an explanation.
We're furries. We're a melting pot of minorities, a collaboration of ostrecised, and marginalised free thinkers, and those who're different, who are interested in taboo, and sensationalised fetishes. We are wierd, different unique, radical. So we get all kinds. ALL kinds. we don't care about Gender, race creed age religion, NOTHING, we don't care. If a person made a mascot suit, that's a giant pussy, and walked around the con, it would be welcomed, with giggles, and jovial humor. Sure some people would be offended, [especially the large population of gay people] but they'd not mind, it's all good, so long as you play nice.
So maybe I'm rambling, but I'm making points here and there. Like how many of my friends who're in some way "Brony" and I sometimes tease them, but it's still furry. I don't mind. I remember seeing pony suiters at RF this last year. but I didn't mind. they're not trying to "Invade" the furry con and I'm not afraid of them pushing furries out. I wonder what ten years down the road will be. will MLP be a fad, and fade away? won't they be silly if that's what happens. </rant>
but i digress. its pretty silly for them to ban furries considering their fandom pretty much gave them the basis for theirs.. i mean. if the furry fandom didnt exist to begin with, i dont think that the brony fandom would be like it is now. theres just too many things that the brony fandom takes from other fandoms.
because everyone knows that all furries just wanna fuck animals and yiff around in murr suits all over convention floors. -_(\-
cause, yanno a brony would never put fake vagoos in a plushie of whatever the name is.. ponysparkle's butt or something and have their way with it.. no.. bronies dont do that. they're just people who love a cutie little cartoon show for little girls... v.v
sorry this post is over-saturated in sarcasm.. ^^;;
for me, i love pony OCs.. cause i like to see people's creativity based on things they like. (like, real OCs.. not those, 'i mooshed pinkpony from the show with sparklepony from the show together. original character do not steal')
but there's just really no reason for bronies to hate on furries, and no reason for furries to hate on bronies. all fandoms have their good and bad and loud and whatever.. so what?
I would imagine that it would be because of some issues they had with fursuiters in previous cons (remember management made this decision, not necessarily a majority of the fandom). Buttt that's just my idea since everyone seems to have such negative responses :C
however this "banning of furries" is not a good idea at all considering many people identify as furry and brony at the same time and will be offended by this
Last year they (the convention) almost lost the contract for being at the convention space.
Over $300,000 in property damage last year
Toilets broken, fights in the halls, really damaging parties. All allowed since the con's security didnt care about security. They were all in the security office on night ignoring calls since a voice actor was in there talking with them in said pony's voice.
Actual "mad pooper" (Multiples of them) Three elevators with human feces spread around in them. Stairwells (4 of them) With the same. And even the hot tub/pool area with human feces within the water and spread around the brick/padio to the pool area.
Yea... Pretty sure the idea of an attack is not too far off from that 'shit'
IDK, that's just my 2 cents *drops em in the jar*
Banning bronies from furry cons have actually been a running joke - but it always seemed like such a bad idea and it was never put in place. It will only cause more harm and friction - and I wouldn't be surprised if some bronies also didn't go as they have furry friends but can't go with them. Or just boycotting it because it's a really dumb idea to ban someone for liking a certain style of fictional horse costumes/character - but not a different style of fictional horse character/costumes.
Personally I have avoided Brony cons - even if one of my friends really wanted to go with me, because of the awful awful horror stories. Sure Furries got their own share of bad shit - but it's seems that in the brony fandom the most common themes are "male supremacy" / "choking /violence for not liking a certain character" and a lot of rape and creepy shit. Not saying it doesn't happen in the furry fandom, but I dunno - I still feel safer at the fur cons and the creeps are more watered out. (just avoid any furcon that babyfurs congregate to - piss and shit every fucking where )
*huffs* Sorry, rambled a bit. Just piffed at people.
I understand bronies not calling themselves furries because they dont necessarily subscribe to what everyone really considers furry lifestyle - ie making a sona, enjoying almost all anthropomorphic characters, etc. even though they may -technically- be furry because the mlp characters are anthropomorphic, thye might only specifically like mlp, not bugs bunny, etc.
Though this is an all new low.
Also I know many "bronies" who are furries and many who are not, but my friends who are bronies arent caustic like the ones you mentioned in your original post. =\ sad days
But a lot of times we use it more specifically and in other senses, e.g. the *people* who like anthros in general rather than just MLP specifically as opposed to the *people* who are more into MLP specifically than other furry stuff, in which case you can mark a clear divide a lot more easily since it's defined according to *people* rather than what the art itself is. On the *people* level, you don't really have the square/rectangle analogy anymore. You have divisions.
And then defining it according to *people* like that I think clarifies why the rivalry exists, because *people* can claim "possessions" and "territory," for example cons. And once you bring "possessions" and "territory" and "rules" and all that political stuff into the picture, it kind of inevitably leads to some rivalies and negative energy.
I hope that makes at least a little bit of sense :/
Where exactly does it say non-pony fursuits are forbidden?
Wear a mlp shirt over your fursuit? Then you can say you're "cosplaying" as a brony.
Then after getting pictures to show others are there, I want to get in full fursuit and go around being recorded. If asked/forced to leave, then I have all the proof I need to put to YouTube for blatant discrimination.
Sorry... This whole thing really has me more irked than it should.
