Because, your asking for common sense of a rabid fan base (Does watch MLP, but isn't insane) that feels like they are treated like garbage, even though alot of people don't really CARE. Hell, some of my best friends (that aren't furries) watch MLP, but they hate people that call themselves bronies because of how annoying they act all the time. .w.

It may be hotel space, but they're paying a large sum of money to rent out a large portion of that space for the con. chances are they'd ask you to leave and have hotel staff back them on it.

As for your question: I have no clue. I'd like to say it's because they want to keep it MLP related, but it's probably not it. Maybe they're just assholes. Perhaps they'll provide an explanation.

Your rant is perfect. i feel quite the same on most everything youve said. HOWEVER. i have seen the flip side to this. and this story is quite... backward. i was at MFF 2 or three years ago (not this passed december) and i was in suit with a couple friends of mine and this suiter walks by. now the person in the suit isnt very imposing mind you. He wears a Suicune pokemon suit. BUT he was wearing a large sign around his neck that says "BRONIES ARE NOT FURRIES" and the other side said "BRONIES GO HOME". I was enirely baffled by this. One, why? theyre not hurting anyone. Two, youre one to talk. by that logic, your sona is a pokemon, and therefore, isnt a furry. Three, what the hell?! this is a convention for everyone. its a welcome space for all kinds. its a giant weekend long party? why all the hate?

but i digress. its pretty silly for them to ban furries considering their fandom pretty much gave them the basis for theirs.. i mean. if the furry fandom didnt exist to begin with, i dont think that the brony fandom would be like it is now. theres just too many things that the brony fandom takes from other fandoms.

I would imagine that it would be because of some issues they had with fursuiters in previous cons (remember management made this decision, not necessarily a majority of the fandom). Buttt that's just my idea since everyone seems to have such negative responses :C

maybe they want to prevent what happened at that furcon with the chlorine gas. i could see a similar fandom trying to distance themselves when they see someone get attacked like so. i think itd be a better idea to just ban non brony suits, but let anyone come.

It wasnt an attack. it was a really poorly thought out practical joke with catastrophic results.
however this "banning of furries" is not a good idea at all considering many people identify as furry and brony at the same time and will be offended by this

Actually it was an attack.. Deliberate to shut down the con from someone that was very angry at, essentially, anthrocon. I will tell you about it if you want.

Toilets broken, fights in the halls, really damaging parties. All allowed since the con's security didnt care about security. They were all in the security office on night ignoring calls since a voice actor was in there talking with them in said pony's voice.

Actual "mad pooper" (Multiples of them) Three elevators with human feces spread around in them. Stairwells (4 of them) With the same. And even the hot tub/pool area with human feces within the water and spread around the brick/padio to the pool area.

Ya know, i really do not have any Idea. I especially don't know why we cant get along, i mean, one of my friends IRL is a brony! (funnily enough he became a brony before I became a furry, and is one of only 2 irl friends that know i'm a fur) I agree with what some of the others on here said, but have something else to offer too: maybe they want to be seen completley as their own fandom, not just a part of/related to furs, and since obviously lots of furs go to brony cons they're pretty much sayin "hey guys we're tryin to show that we're our own fandom, and the only way to do that is to not allow you to come so that people will hopefully recognize that."

That was my thought too. But with that, why allow bronies to go to fur cons them? If you are a brony that has a pony suit that frequents furry conventions, would you also not be allowed since you fratrinise with the enemy?

Well we kind od "shelter" bronies by allowing them to stay within our larger fandom and get stronger as their own fandom, they feed on our power and influence. Also to the brony suit thing, I do not know, I personally think bronies are odd, but would not discriminate and if it were my decision and I had influence on a furcon i would allow them most likely. although there is that fact that they technically do not have fur, i could get in trouble for not allowing them as there are horse fursonas and ponies are obviously of the same equine family, now mlp? Ugh i should probably think about this more.

I probably classify as a furry. I say probably as I don't really call myself that, I just enjoy drawing animals and humans - and some times mash ups. There are so many awesome stuff that can come from the furry fandom as it's so unique and without rules. I really enjoyed watching MLP, I even have a few pony characters that I doodled - I am however not a brony. The show for me is over, it was a good show and I enjoyed watching it - but I am not going to go into it's fandom. (it's a bit like the difference between those who like twilight and the crazy twihards).

Banning bronies from furry cons have actually been a running joke - but it always seemed like such a bad idea and it was never put in place. It will only cause more harm and friction - and I wouldn't be surprised if some bronies also didn't go as they have furry friends but can't go with them. Or just boycotting it because it's a really dumb idea to ban someone for liking a certain style of fictional horse costumes/character - but not a different style of fictional horse character/costumes.

Personally I have avoided Brony cons - even if one of my friends really wanted to go with me, because of the awful awful horror stories. Sure Furries got their own share of bad shit - but it's seems that in the brony fandom the most common themes are "male supremacy" / "choking /violence for not liking a certain character" and a lot of rape and creepy shit. Not saying it doesn't happen in the furry fandom, but I dunno - I still feel safer at the fur cons and the creeps are more watered out. (just avoid any furcon that babyfurs congregate to - piss and shit every fucking where )

I'm reading the thread you are in and some of these people really anger me. Furries aren't bad. And if they want to sit there and basically say that furs are only interested in bestiality and sex and such, then they need to look further into their fandom. I cannot tell you how many MLP porn pictures I have come across or listen to how some bronies want to have sex with the characters. IT IS IN EVERY FANDOM! But, it doesn't mean that everyone or even most in the fandom are like that. Whether they identify as furries or not, they still like anthropomorphic art and a lot of the same things furries like, but it only pertains to one universe. They have no room to judge furries and claim that they are completely different.

I understand bronies not calling themselves furries because they dont necessarily subscribe to what everyone really considers furry lifestyle - ie making a sona, enjoying almost all anthropomorphic characters, etc. even though they may -technically- be furry because the mlp characters are anthropomorphic, thye might only specifically like mlp, not bugs bunny, etc.

I agree with you completely, the square/rectangle analogy is a perfect fit. It drives me nuts to see a brony go "OMG FURRY EW" when they're wrapped up in cute pony stuff. The concept completely goes over their head.

"Furry" means a lot of things on varying different levels. Usually we tend to think of it in the most general sense, i.e. including bronies, Pokemon/Starfox/Disney fans, etc, and abstractly as a kind of art style. Of course in this sense the square/rectangle analogy works just fine.

But a lot of times we use it more specifically and in other senses, e.g. the *people* who like anthros in general rather than just MLP specifically as opposed to the *people* who are more into MLP specifically than other furry stuff, in which case you can mark a clear divide a lot more easily since it's defined according to *people* rather than what the art itself is. On the *people* level, you don't really have the square/rectangle analogy anymore. You have divisions.

And then defining it according to *people* like that I think clarifies why the rivalry exists, because *people* can claim "possessions" and "territory," for example cons. And once you bring "possessions" and "territory" and "rules" and all that political stuff into the picture, it kind of inevitably leads to some rivalies and negative energy.

I hope that makes at least a little bit of sense :/

As a Furry and a recent ex-MLP fan, I don't really know the answer for this myself. I still like MLP, it is a cute show and I enjoy that the show is geared towards teaching children good lessons in life. I however, don't know why MLP fans hate Furries in general. As soon as you find out mind filling me in as well?

I thought of something better. I want to go with 1-3 others and just go through the con in plain clothes. I want to get pictures with cosplayers that are not MLP related. A deadpool, computer head, etc.

Then after getting pictures to show others are there, I want to get in full fursuit and go around being recorded. If asked/forced to leave, then I have all the proof I need to put to YouTube for blatant discrimination.
