Since Im really tired of hearing people crying that "they just want free stuff!" when thats not the case at all. Im going to throw something down for you.

When you watch an artist. you are watching them for their art. If it be for porn, the art, or just because you like their adorable stuff. You are watching the artist because you like the art. To "force" support is very disrespectful of the watchers and is quite insulting. Not everyone has the money to support an artist with weekly/monthly fees. Even more so there are a lot of artists on this site. Are you supporting every single artist? There is over 10k+ on here. Go spend 10k($1 per artist) every week/month. Then come back to me and complain about people wanting "free" art. Patreon is a support site, not a paywall. As I told maka, If you want support and respect you earn it, not demand it.

You need to know the difference between advertisement and paywall. What was done yesterday was a paywall. To advertise, you would make a picture about the patreon account. To censor with stamp patreon stickers all over the picture is not a reason I watched the person to begin with. You can use your own excuse of "free shit" all you want. Since you think all watchers on FA are "leaches" because this is a free site. So by your definition, every watcher on the site has to pay $1 to every artist because they are making a "living". If they dont, then they are some free wanting leach. Some great logic you got there.

If the artist wants to make sure they have something special for patreon users. Then advertise a picture with multi previews of what their patreon people would get instead of censoring with a paywall and forcing people to go to patreon in order to view said art. So no offense to maka, but if Im going to pay a monthly subscription to "view porn" since thats what you think this is all about. I'd go to sexyfur or a pay site that I know I can get a hell of a lot more then a single artists artwork for. Patreon is a "support" site. Nothing more. Artists on FA have turned it from a donation support site to a paywall. Till people like you stop defending artists actions and see through it. It'll continue to happen. White knighting isnt solving anything and you wont be treated anymore special for your "defending".

If you watched an artist because you like their art, then why would you care about a censor? Other artists censor things on FA to advertise their art on other locations for the uncensored versions and they still do it despite how many people try to complain about the censors, and guess what? They still have PLENTY of watchers.

The one artist that comes to mind? They've still got over 15k watchers. Makari has a little over 1/3rd of that. Take the drama from the single censored picture from yesterday (which was just nipples, by the way), multiply it by 3, and that's what you can expect over there any time a censored picture gets uploaded.

Paywall censorship on a "support" site isnt a way to advertise. Patreon has been a plague ever since it was brought up on FA. Artists are suppose to use it as a "support me please" which is to get rid of the "donation jar" thats been hovering around FA. Now artist have taken that and now have taken the donation jar and censored every picture they have with it demanding they be paid for their art that has nothing to do with anyone other then the artist.. Do you in your right mind really think thats right? To demand donations isnt in no means right and many people wont support artists who demand it.

artists spend thousands of hours working on things to provide content and get paid less than minimum wages for it, but I guess you find that okay because you don't want to be personally "insulted" by having to pay for anything.

FA is a free site. To post on this site, you are showing your art for free. How it's always been since I've been here. This is a "shared community" or its suppose to be. When money is involved it corrupts. Its suppose to be a site you share your work. Now its a site of "pay me money to view my art". Patreon is a "donation" site. Mostly put, it replaces the "donation jar" icon that has been pasted around on artists page. Now would you feel the same way if patreon didnt exist and artists start stamping donation jar censorship over their picture? Its the same thing, different icon. To demand donations is in no way right.

Patreon is a -subscription- fee based site. It's not for donations. You're thinking of gofundme.
Patreons offer tier rewards based on the monthly/weekly subscription amount.
It's recurring, it's not a one off donation.
Again, it's -payment- for -product-.
Sure some are using it as a cash for free donation service, but that's not it's intended use.

Patreon is still a donation site either way you put it. You are supporting the artist for little benefit. So its a donation. Unless you donate for a large amount of money, you get nothing out of it. So you are a.k.a. Donating.

I will say it pretty clearly. Patreon is in no way a bad idea, but it "IS" a bad idea to use it as a paywall and stamping patreon all over a picture as an excuse to try to make people pay for it. You did, however, come across in an incredibly aggressive manner and this old chestnut has been debated over and over again during my 16 years in the fandom (people complained when artists started taking commissions to begin with in the early 2000s, and now, we have patreon).
Patreon is a subscription service. I'm sorry you are convinced otherwise, but it's just not true. It's monthly/weekly/bi monthly debits.
I hate entitled artists equally as the viewers, and I've made no secret of this to "high end" artists as well.
Unfortunately, uploading a censored image to FA IS a popular and (surprisingly successful) advertising strategy.
Maybe not the patreon logo, but yes censoring and linking to where you can see the full version.

Im just fighting for something that doesnt need to be on this site. If they want to have a patreon. by all means have one. Just dont force it on people. I wont name people...but a lot of artists have taken patreon to a level of pure greed. People see that success of that greed and want in on it as well. Its a trend thing that flow in everyone(a.k.a. people making money off of five nights at freddys). One artist alone has 5 patreons. Its not even about asking for support at that point then saying "pay me for each product you want to see". Most artists treat the FA watchers as they are stupid and will follow like sheep and to be honest I understand exactly why they do. I've seen an artist straight up steal from people(with proof) and the watchers will defend said artist. This is why this site gets out of control at times.

You have to break an egg to make an omelette. It's impossible to make everyone happy. Some decisions you have to stand with. As a content creator of any sort you'll need a thick skin to bear the unrelenting shitstorm that is the internet, especially a localized fandom.

If you like pleasin' the crowd why dontcha also tease em? Instead of uploading a censored version just upload a snippet of it, showing off what people could see if they supported you, or just wait a week/until the next teaser comes up.

Censoring like you did it isn't a way to expand yourself as artist, never do it again, people will always hate those who use Patreon as a paywall. If you must tease with censored version in order to get donators, do it so that the donators can see uncensored version on Patreon week before you post it publicly, that's one good reason to become donator and you don't get hated for using Patreon as a paywall.

You have to realize this. Not everyone will support Patreon users. They dont want to give money JUST so they could see artwork from anyone. The whole censoring artwork JUST to get people to support Patreons are a bit rash. Since for the longest, you've been on FA, there was never censoring involved with your art. Now that you have a patreon, people are not pleased with how youre censoring art just to get people to support your page.

But its your patreon and your art, do what you wanna do.

i completly understand, maybe i just did it to early, i want to make this my job at the end of the day and to this day im somwhat succesful to that, the cencoring thing was primarily to extend that however maybe im just not at a stage where i can comfortably do it.

I have to agree with with Blue above. I've seen more and more artists using Patreon to form a paywall of sorts. Problem is, furs are poor, and we like to watch artists. The chances that any but a small fraction of them are going to become Patreon sponsors is pretty damned low. That means you're going to lose tons of fans. Certainly the casual fans will be all gone, and a number of the more dedicated ones won't really be able to afford it either. However, I can certain guarantee that the furry repost sites to find Patreon-exclusive content will explode in popularity!

So far the best system I've seen has been to release work to Patreon before posting it elsewhere. Maybe show WIPs there, a couple of Patreon-exclusives. I think moving the majority of your work to Patreon, or just posting censored versions here would be a bit nuts.

i get tht, the main thing is though i do freebie art streams, i charge the bear minnimum that i can just so i can itneract with my audience more, im as selfless as it can be, the aim has always been an will always be the best itneraction between me and my audience.

the thing im finding hard to grab a hold of is how quickly people unwatched me and slandered me for somthing i was only doing as a trial. labeling me within seconds as a "money grabber" even though again it was a trial and after everythign else iv done to try and counter it....

Hmm...maybe try approaching it in a different way? rather then showing the censored art, why not try to sell it in an art pack, and advertise that tastefully? That way no one gets mad over a censored image and people who wanna see the art can buy it. Also, you could put in a blurb that says Patreon supporters will get a 'trickle' effect, with the pictures being slowly released to them for free so long as they continue to support?

Just my thoughts. Though people shouldn't complain. It's your art, and your life. Though perhaps waiting a bit is a good option too. You do need to make sure you bring in positive support with this rather then negative.

The amount of flack you are getting is honestly pretty silly, this is your art work that you create for other people to view. I think a lot of folks forget the amount of time that is dedicated to these sort of things. You turn out work on a fairly regular basis for patreons it really feels like you care about them pitching in. In the end it's your choice if you want to continue releasing the censoring pictures to your FA or not, I still plan on supporting you through patreon. Those of us here, we got your back.

Yeah, the whole Patreon thing was kind of...unexpected. To be honest, I was kind of expecting maybe a few people to of get peeved at it because, you know, that's how some people are but the amount of backlash you received was silly as well as frustrating. This just goes to show that we live in the age of Entitlement, where people believe they're owed something simply for existing. I enjoyed the censored pic, I enjoyed the non-censored. I don't have the money to do a payment plan like patreon for any of the artists I enjoy. But when they do things to try and gain attention to the option, and give reasonable incentives to be a member of it, I certainly feel the desire to buy in. Don't get bullied. Do what you need to do to stabilize your income, and your life.

Im not really wanting to handle it, the entire reason i made that submission cencored was to test to see if that avenue was succesful, when i reposted that submission i could of gone on about how much it bawwed me to see all the hateful comments and such, but honestly im not bothered, it clearly wasnt going to work at the point im at currently so with that rather than draw it all out i just decided to go back on it. and you may be mis reading my "not learning" for ignorance, honestly i dont see it, i tryed somthing it didnt work/wouldent be appreciated the whole "dont want drama" thing was more of a pointer towards just wanting to get back to what i do normally which is try to entertain my watcher with funny;/adult art work.

Personally, I think nothing of someone who bitches and complains because an artist decides they want to ask for a few dollars a month for their work. Admittedly, Mara's art is pretty weak on the grand scale of things, but I know that even the most basic of artwork comes with 1000s of hours of practice.

I just enjoy arguing with the entitled poor-ass furries in the fandom who feel that fap material is owed to them, and reminding what they actually are. They like to talk about how much they "support" artists when really all they do is badger and harass and cry when they don't get their own special way. Artists do all the work, the "fans" are just the parasites of the system for the most part. There is that rare gem, but my GOD are they one in a million.

I can understand your point and I see want you're trying to achieve, but trust me, this is not helping! Makari needs support from fans and friends, yes. He doesn't need someone pissing people off even further (albeit whilst trying to help).

I don't think this is fair. Makari planned to give his patreon users early previews all along. The point of them supporting him was that they got benefits from it as well. That's not ti say he didn't plan to release uncensored versions at a later point to those who were not patreons. Everything has an incentive these days - would you subscribe to a magazine if there was no discounted price or freebies to make it worth your while? The people supporting him deserve an incentive to, otherwise what's the point?

I can't even begin to understand why all of this is such a huge deal even after reading the arguments. It just seems like a lot of worthless bitching just as an excuse to bitch to me... but I also realize that some people have other priorities in life than me. I could live without furry stuff in general but I enjoy them and appreciate artists that want to share their creations. I can't bring myself to spend what little money I have on monthly donations though when I would much rather sink it into my own craft.

I see myself and artists in the same light even though I can't share my art with as many people. Being a chef means I can craft fantastic meals and I feed people to bring happiness and fulfillment to their and my own day. An artist can do the same by sharing their art, and I can understand making pictures and wanting to share them with the world. Sharing your own personal creations is a great feeling, especially when people enjoy them. I can also understand that sometimes you want to get payed for your work and I think that is fine as well. I recently sold bread that I had made, and some people were disappointed that it was just for sale and they had to buy to eat (I usually share my creations for free), some payed happily, It is just how the market works and as a seller you should never feel bad for sometimes wanting to make a profit from your time and energy.

Honestly the only thing I really dislike is people who charge exorbitant amounts for their art. I realize it is a free market and all, but I have seen some really questionable art bought from big names and still praised as great just because it was drawn by a popufur. But I still wouldn't insult, attack, or unwatch someone over something as silly as their business prices.
