Yes, it is 2015, so everyone's talking about self-tying shoes and hoverboards, but hands up how many of us ACTUALLY went back in time this week? =B

Hah!

Well. Sort of.

Last weekend was the Magic PreRelease of Fate Reforged and Magic players went back in time 1280 years to Tarkir before Nicol Bolas could kill the Spirit Dragon Ugin, finding a way to save him from dying and stopping the extinction of the dragons!

I had major fun with it on the Saturday, even managing to luck out with a Warden of the First Tree of my promo card!

I had fun with a card I could play turn one and then just kept building up, and it was something to see how the new sets cards functions, I managed to come in with a respectable 3-2 result, while everyone who went Jeskai/Jeskai-Abzan pulled the packs for first place

I've even managed to pick up a few trades prior to the release now happening tomorrow and think of some ideas to try a home brew with maybe as I embrace my darker Sultai side~

But, there were some downsides.

Well, one I can't blame on the cards at least XP

But yeah, the cards, Wizards were awesome and made a series of challenges that would happen at the prerelease, and if half of the players could check off the tasks presented for each phase, a little display box was slowly unfolded on the counter, until finally, complete, it opened to reveal the visage of the Spirit Dragon we had just saved, and inside the box, would be a bonus pack of cards for everyone called 'Ugin's Fate' that showed alternate art for cards to portray the new future we'd created.

Soooooo, first thing?

Yeeeeup, canids look like they've somehow got an in with the dragons and do not look like they're friendly OR welcomed, which is kind of a big bummer, sure they didn't do much in the first set, but I'd hoped we'd have me a big character from them soon or something

Oh well, only time will tell what happens there I suppose...

Second thing on the Ugin's Fate boosters, is I kind of wish people didn't realise they could pull Ugin himself from the boosters, besides being a ridiculously powerful card, that alternate art is beautiful, and in fact now very much highly sought after, commanding about 100+ dollars on eBay right about now

So of course, people find out about Ugin and everyone wants him (hell, I want one, lol) and people rip open these packs looking for him... and groans all round

It was a really cool idea of Wizards to do the Ugin's Fate boosters, with awesome new art teasing the idea what we'll find next set when we return to the present and all, but, I think everyone, myself included, kind of succumbed to greed and basically thought of the packs as like the Ugin Lottery or something

...

Damned if I won't have to do something to try and get hold of one still though >_>

Oh!

And the other thing was, as is traditional at any gathering of geeks, nerds and CCG-ers, when one person has something? EVERYONE gets to share it, lol

Spent the Sunday afterward in bed wracked up like someone had kicked me in the guts, flu, sick, bleh, then had to pull myself out of bed to go to work three days in a row, and every day just crawled back into bed with like zero strength left afterward

I'm feeling a bit better now, and maybe I'm just being a wuss and bigging it up, or maybe I'm just still sour grapes since I didn't pull an Ugin card, lol, but yeah, hopefully you should be hearing more from me again now as I pull myself together =3

I have as you see, new art that needs to be getting made and all!

So!

Another week or so and I'll hopefully be getting casts removed, let's see if I can channel some energy out of that and get things done there~
