Name Change Help?

Does anyone know if there's a way to change your username? I know there really isn't a function on here that can do that yet, but I think I've heard something about asking a mod to do it for you. Anyone know if that's true or not?
Kareen is a name that's very near and dear to me, it belongs to one of my very first characters. However, I feel that I have grown past that stage in my life and would like to make a change. I could just make a new account with a new name, but doing that just wouldn't feel right to me. The name I have in mind isn't taken yet (thank goodness!) so if I absolutely have to I can just make a new one under that name.
I've searched the forums and the internet in general but the only solution I found was making a new account.
You could always try sending the mods a message no?
I've searched the forums a bit. FurAffinity's infrastructure can't handle username changes at the moment. Something about info being stored by username instead of an ID so changing the username just kills the account. You can still try to message the mods but I'm afraid that you'll have to start a new account.
