Rant about gaming - You've been warned
Here's something interesting... Alright this is like a mini rant right here. I don't usually rant to people outside my family (or I try not to) because when I do I really, really rant.
So here we go....
GAMING IS DEAD!!! (Start with a strong statement)
Now I know there have been some great games and innovations but in the past few years games and their creators are taking it upon themselves to rape our wallets and shit on our beloved franchises. How many times have you seen something that looks awesome, that looks like it's never been done before, looks like it'll be hours of fun... and then find out that it's a total unplayable waste of time. I've been so hyped about games and then so sad and unwilling to admit what a disappointment they were. example: Assassin's Creed 3 and Mass Effect 3 (Replayed all previous games before launch, pre-ordered, read up on all the lore, even skipped out on a lesson at college each time so I could pick 'em up on release day), If you've played the franchises then I don't need to finish this example.
This isn't the only thing either.
Because of casual gamers (and I don't mean to offend any one here so I'm apologising now) companies get away with this. I know I'm talking about a percentage of casual gamers, but that percentage is enough to make this ok. Where gamers and franchise fans stand up and scream at developers "this ain't right! stop fucking with our games", casual gamers say "eh it's a bit glitchy but they'll patch it" or "eh that was a little disappointing... oh well". example: most free to play games like that star trek pixels thing.
Also, the shit that companies give reviewers. These last few years a whole new job area opened up. The Youtuber. you know Yogscast, Vanossgaming, Nerdcubed, Seananners. And the world of youtube reviews Totalbiscuit, Angry Joe etc. Youtube is a different rant altogether but companies attack reviewers for giving bad reviews, jeopardising these peoples income! example The Slaughtering Grounds
I know this wasn't the most factual and well structured rant but it's late and I needed to say something. My closing point is. When I was little my mum and me would go to town and I'd look through the bargain buckets and buy a cheap second rate game and have hours of fun with it (if I didn't it was no biggie as it was about £5). When I was older I saw adverts and thought " OMG that's awesome" and would then eagerly await the game and not be disappointed. Now.... I've got a brand new gaming pc, I have no reason what so ever to buy the new consoles (and most likely no reason to buy the next ones), no games that I'm hyped for and no new games that I want to waste my hard earned money on..... That makes me truly, truly sad.
Lastly I'm going to leave these two videos as examples of what I'm talking about. These guys as well as many others do a much better job at this then me.

Not to sound dramatic but, this video is truly a fan who has been hurt (and I'm not making a joke here)

We now live in a world of hype without content and endless DLC's and micro-transactions. It's just the way it is, mostly. :P
The Evil Within is a good example. It looked like a totally new, gorgeous take on horror-survival, but it seems like at the last minute they ran out of time and made it resident evil instead, losing
a lot of that awesome survival aspect shown in trailers. It was still "fun"-ish, but a sad, far cry from what it claimed to be.
Really, for the best GAMEplay, you'll find that in "indie" games these days. You'll have to sift through 100 crappy ones first, but then you'll stumble on a real good one. And you'll only get these on PC. Consoles aren't even consoles anymore, they're just PC's in a different, picky box that only plays its own games.
So I agree totally. But there is still gold hidden amongst the trash, it's just real hard to find.
Also: Star Trek Pixels? Huh? What are you talking about?
If you mean Star Trek Online, I have to disagree there. It's my favourite place to live. :P It's the best MMO I've ever played, f2p or not.
Even at its' worst, it's a hundred times better than some F2P games I've messed with. And it wasn't F2P originally, which is probably why it's better. :^
But yeah, mostly this rant is quite true. The 'gaming world' went mainstream and corporate, so it turned to crap.
The same thing is slowly happening to Furry.... x3 Just look at how many artists make a big point to say "I draw furries but I'm totally not a furry!!!" lol
The star trek game was a free to play game called Star Trek Trexels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_AgjWkNGew (was too late to go find it yesterday -_-'' ).
True though there are some gems and indie developers do a good job so there is hope. But I've been getting hyped about games like The evil within and they just disappoint as well. The last one was the latest Assassin's creed, so glitchy on release. I still haven't bought it even now, it's just disappointing. And the amount of bad games I've been lucky enough to dodge. I almost bought Ride to Hell when it was new O.O Thought it looked like a biker form of GTA.... Really saved money and dodged a bullet there.
At least the old games are still around =3
while many may gang up on me for this, i need to bring it out that the gaming world is being harmed by the consoles , the XBOX ONE isn't even a console its a cable box that happens to play games,
the PS4, whats even new with it, prettier hats? come on guys 400$ or 500$ for an already made PC? why not just buy a PC or tablet.
if the industy wants to get its gear in gear, make a console thats easy to upgrade haha.
but ya the game industry is dieing but the indies might save it.
Indie is our last hope
Even the pirates say buy the game if you like it support the developers, primarily the companys need to provide a demo of sorts so we know what were in for.
Piracy provides somewhat of a demo, but i know theres alot of negativity around it and the legal stuff and abuse potential but the main fact is companys need to stop looking at the PC crowds as a bad market and relly start showing it more love.
Payday2 which is (more like 'was') a great game got butchered.
The main reason (so I think) is download content for games. DLC is okay if it is fair and reasonable, but what is done with games right now is just wrong.
One problem is that they say "yeah, you can play the game without the DLC". Just find someone who does that. It does not give you the full experience when you don't own all DLC. The GOTY version of PD2 is about 75€, not including the new DLC (for another insane 20€) - so you'd need to pay almost 100€ for one game.
Don't get me wrong, I still play new games and there are good ones but they should just not hype something (or make a hype-train by themselves (seriously, overkill?)). Same is with watchdogs. Hype the game, let many people pre-order and buy, already pack in a locked DLC and release it unfinished. That is how you get frustration, but at that point they already have your money, so what are you going to do?
Oh, and another thing i want to mention... Consoles are much better because games run at 30 FPS, which makes them more cinematic. With PC, you could achieve 144 FPS which could make the player feel like he is really there. Also it may be in HD and have Anti-Aliasing. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TKvrJD5OD8)
This is the reason I bought back some old stuff.
Super Nintendo with Metroid, Mario, Zelda...
Chipped PS1, all those.
On the other hand, I also went back to some old PC games (I grew up with a PC and I still think that PC is the best experience).
