Should I even bother with a backstory?

Have you had your daily dose of brick to the face, today?
A few days ago, I posted the first chapter of what I intended to be a backstory for Droter and Kovar here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15570025/
So far, though, no one's biting. I've posted it on IB and SF, as well, but except for a couple of faves on IB, no one's shown interest in it, on them, either. That's kinda disheartening for me, because I really want to do something to make these characters fleshed out and not just random sex models. But if no one's going to care about it, should I even bother?
I'm not accusing anyone of anything, just curious if I should even bother with a backstory for these models; the first idea I had went nowhere, and this one, while more appealing to me, is solely based on another's work, and I'd rather avoid that, if at all possible. So, what do you guys think? Do these characters need their own backstory, or should they just be as they are?

I understand what you mean about the lack of interest. The truth is, a lot of works get uploaded here and elsewhere, and the vast majority of them go largely unnoticed. It'd be great if the quality or passion we put into a work automatically got us noticed but it doesn't. I know I've found some absolute gems online that haven't had the exposure they've deserved.
