why a dragon as a main character/fursona?

Because I always loved dragons, even as a kid. One of my favorite audio cassette series was about a young dragon actually and I loved reading and playing games with dragons.

As for why a Manadragon...Secret of Mana is one of the earliest and fondest gaming and rpg experiences I had, and Flammies just look so outstanding compared to your standard dragon.

Western. Again, just like I commented above, I had more western dragons exposed to me, and Flammies are sort of fuzzy western dragons. =w=
