GOP Leader?

I generally keep my personal political opinions off the internet, and I don't want to start a "Us vs. You" fight here in my journal, but after reading in a Turner New Broadcast that Rush Limbaugh is being considered the de facto leader of the GOP in the absence of a clearer leader, I have to ask -
Is the GOP really in that desperate a state that it's down to someone like Mr. Limbaugh to take the front seat for them?

Doesn't Rush Limbaugh berate GOP regularly for not being fascist enough? I would imagine they aren't fond of him either.
It's easy to make a speech against an enemy. Being better then your enemy? A lot trickier.

I won't put down the need for a bellcrier, but I'm not convinced that his talent for putting-down GOP opposition qualifies him for any role beyond that.

I say Hannidy because he is levelheaded but when latching on to a point he dont let go.
I fear Rush would be more of the "howard dean" of the GOP
Yes I work for mostly conservative media outlets so I sit and listen to this because I have bosses who could hear a gnat scream in a hurricane so the audio has to be PERFECT.
There has never been any type of talk of him taking any sort of official role as any sort of leader within the GOP. A lot of this comes from the fact that Obama took it upon himself to target Rush specifically because he doesn't like what he(Rush) says and doesn't enjoy criticism.
If there were to be such a move(and trust me, there will not) I agree with DarkHorse in saying that Hannity or even Neil Boortz would be a better choice. Rush has all the right ideas and would do well, his delivery of the ideas is just a bit over the top, and usually arrogant.
What's funny is how the MSM jumped all over the "Wanting Obama to Fail" comment that rush made, and completely ignored the context that it was said in, as to make Rush look bad any way they could. Journalism in this country has become a true joke and travesty.
I personally dislike Limbaugh based upon everything I've heard from him and most of what I've heard about him. He does well as a bellcrier - vehemently bringing out issues or policies or perceived injustices for his listeners to take up arms against.
As I said, there is a role for him in that vein, but the angry club-wavers seldom make the best role-models. And even if he's not seeking a central position, the idea that he is becoming, or being perceived as a central figure leaves me less than comfortable.

If it weren't for him sharing my ideas so closely and reporting on the things that I agree with, I probably wouldn't listen to him. He can definitely be an arrogant prick. He most definitely serves his purpose though in bringing attention to things that the MSM refuses to report on or admit.
