Not to worry....but

My computer is only starting right about 1/2 the time and I have to shut it down and reboot. This is just what it started doing before the hard drive died last time, so I figure it's just a matter of time. Of course I'm in Mexico with only one person I trust to put in a new one for me if it goes wonky and he's popular so it could take a while if it goes out.
So if I disappear, that's what's going on and I'll be back ASAP. >:3
PS I'm staying backed up so if/when it goes out I'll be fine. ;3

There you are.

Actually that may have started it acting up......or the hard drive is 2 years old and I use it a shitload so maybe it's wearing out. I dunno how these things go bad exactly.
Maybe not rocket science but you're still talking about stuff I'm ignorant of. I don't know what a RAID arrangement is. I'll look it up and see about doing that. One thing I don't get though is when you say let the other hard drive copy itself back to the new one, are you talking about the OS? And if so.....once the old one quits booting How would I copy anything off it? Not to mention I have no idea about copying the OS and how to go about it. Or maybe I'll find out some of this when I google RAID?
I DO have all my important files double backed up, so a new hard drive with the OS installed would suffice if this one just quit booting at all. But for that I'd have to have someone with more knowledge than than me do it. Unless my reinstall discs made when it was new work for me, but I don't know if they would, especially since this one isn't the original hard drive already.
We already had to replace one hard drive. We could use the computer while we waited for the new HD, and the software ^ copied the files onto the replacement within an couple hours.
You may have to install/have installed a jumper so both discs are hooked up.
Actually, while this is interesting. Where I am in Mexico, just gettting the second hard drive and stuff would be difficult. I'll be home in California in another 7 weeks and I have a second, brand new, laptop that I keep basically backed up with everything on this one. So if this one goes out I can just use it while replacing the hard drive in this one.
I'm still goint to look into that though once i'm home. It sounds pretty cool. :)
