Hellsing: Dusk Update and RVW
RVW standing for "Rip Van Winkle".
My Hellsing: Dusk (or simply "Dusk") fan comic is still being worked on and I'm six the pages in. I'm currently working on the 7th page and onward. I plan on finishing Chapter 1 by the end (or hopefully before) February. I'll post the finished Chapter with one page which will read "Chapter (insert # here)" along with the URL that will link you to the comic that's on Drunk Duck or The Duck Webcomics and on Fur Affinity if you have an account there as well. Reason being, "Dusk" will have a lot of situations not suitable to everyone. Be it humor, settings, atmosphere, etc. I'm aiming for "Dusk" to be pretty straight-forward with no filler chapters. After all, the main character of "Dusk" is there in England to investigate the vampire/ghoul outbreaks alongside Hellsing but gets caught up and tangled with the Millennium Army. Growing up, I've been a fan of martial arts, weapons combat action kind of shows and nicely toned adventure/mystery horror/romance genre and I usually mix all those in to a degree. It's not going to be a perfect story but if it keeps you in the feel that I've made then it'll let me know that I'm doing something right. :)
A little heads up, I'm the kind of person who writes a story that has more of the characters involved with what's going on rather than who's there and this gets done or happens (this includes minor characters like an SS-Waffen Soldier to a low-level Iscariot member). I prefer story and sustenance rather than a character comes in, win, and that's it. That's just how I feel when it comes to stories and characters development.
Hellsing BS (BullShit) Chronicles is a loose and comical take with the Hellsing series putting the Hellsing characters in some story parodies or putting them in various sitcom fashion. It's clearly for entertainment value and to tide you over while I work on "Dusk". Characters will get hurt in comical proportions but no one will die. Everyone in the Hellsing series will still be alive so you'll be able to see them again later on. I'm planning to update BS at least twice a week. Or, at least, once every Saturday. Or Wednesday. An interesting note for the BS Chronicles is that they can "fill in the blanks" of "Dusk" with the "Dusk" Characters doing things while "being bored" and having "nothing to do". Hellsing BS Alucard is more of an asshole and jerk who gets into frequent fights and arguments with a character by the name "Handy Man". While "Dusk" Alucard is more of his Hellsing/OVA counterpart. BS Integra is a bit more jovial but scares people since she keeps a good poker face. BW Walter cracks snide jokes but remains mostly the same. BS Major is so caught up in his quest for a "Grand War" that he has no idea what goes on around Millennium. And that's to name a few quirks of the characters. BS Jan/Yan is more of a sex offender and general (and gross) creep.
Lastly...
Rip Van Winkle
Year's ago, I've found Rip Van Winkle incredibly interesting. It was only during the course of 2014 that I've actually sat down and watched Hellsing OVA as well as reading the comic book as well. I've caught wind of Hellsing but only noticed the TV series and didn't pay too much attention. It was around 2007/2008 when I met a friend who was watching the series, I was like "I take it this was Hellsing" because I've recognized Alucard's design. Till this day, whenever someone would utter "Seras Vicotria's" name, the first thing that comes in my mind of her standing on top of the mansion with Hakkonnen II as she gets ready to shoot down Zorin's Zeppelin. That was the first episode of Hellsing Ultimate OVA that I saw with my friend. After that, I've looked into Hellsing and wondered why there were "two different ones".
Then, it happened. I was reading about the characters in the series and came across the name "Rip Van Winkle". The next thing was "she"...I was like "wait a minute. She would imply that's a woman." Why would a woman have a masculine name? I wondered. I looked into Kouta Hirano's art and became aware of how he draws and his style. I saw the design of Rip Van Winkle and I thought it was interesting.
She wasn't overtly sexual in design but I just liked how she looked overall. That and I loved her hair along with how her eyes are drawn. I laughed at the thought "Is she even interested in what she does? She must be the laziest Nazi in Millennium." Ironically, I was wrong. I know her character is a bad guy but she throws so much energy and enthusiasm into her work that I've practically fell in love with her. This alone told me that there's more to her that a 15 min screen time of her on the OVA. That's why I like her comic book counterpart more. She's playful and...it's really just her overall enthusiasm of being part of something big actually. Sure, her "dream" was shot down when Alucard stepped aboard that ship.
I've felt that even though she was a vampire, she wasn't "entirely evil". What I mean is that, I acknowledge her being a villain but what she has done so far were strictly per orders from the Major and not on her own accord.
Here are my examples:
She was tasked with hijacking a Naval Vessel. She did.
Killing the crew members (the Vampire Vice Captain and Shipmates) were ordered by the Major. Not her doing.
All she did while on the Eagle was protect the ship from any enemies.
While waiting, she would hum, sing songs about how great Germany is.
Rip (in general) is really just a loyal soldier and is happy being a part of something that is big. Everything she did were per Major's orders. Even the Major's words motivated her to stand up against Alucard in the end. If Rip did this on her own, she'd probably be still on her knees panicking. This is just me speculating. Either way, despite her short appearance, Rip is pretty much a dedicated, committed soldier to the Major's cause. Can't really fault someone being "evil" for that. "Brainwashed" probably. Evil is more on the lines what Zorin Blitz pulled.
Another thing that I find cute about Rip Van Winkle, and this is brought up in Hellsing: The Dawn, is that she's...well..she's pretty much a spaz. In the chapter with her in it, she comes off as a klutz but well-meaning soldier. Again, this adds more to her character despite the small scene. Seriously, Rip comes off as that "anime bookworm girl who's meek but wants to do great things". Could you imagine what could have played out in Hellsing if she did knock Alucard in the sea? This included is why I like her so much. As it stands right now, Felicia (from Darkstalkers) was my #1 favorite fictional female but Rip has now tied with her.
Also, another thing I've noticed is that she actually has large breasts for her body frame. Again, a page in Hellsing: The Dawn could give you a good estimate. I would say she may be somewhere around a B or early C. She's just not as "protruding" like Seras, Yumie, and Zorin. Also, remember that it's Hirano's art style. Whenever he draws anyone in a business suit, it's like a thick layer of clothing.
The reason why I've created Hellsing "Dusk" is because I've been getting highly invested with the Hellsing characters in 2014. It'll follow the original story of Hellsing as well as being it's own story with very little alterations to the characters. Only difference is that, you will most likely see more of the Millennium Army and characters than you saw them in the original Hellsing (The "werewolf" unit will be shown more as well as actively more things to do. That's the idea). Same for some of the Iscariot members (Yumie and Heinkel may have more panel time).
I know a lot of people like characters so I'm not big on making "waifu wars" and what-not. I simply like to write/illustrate a fan story (yes, my OCs are usually coinciding with the franchise I'm writing about) and that's that. If you end up liking how the story(s) went then it tells me that I'm doing a good job. I do things like this for me to help me get better at comic book art and story-telling. Not really to stroke myself off to my character's greatness.
Felicia has a much higher fanbase so there's a high chance that fans of her may cause drama and I don't feel like hearing/reading any of it. Rip's fanbase is smaller but a lot of my Black Wolf Dio (my OC) x Rip Van Winkle (Hellsing) pictures seem to garner favors. I dunno, maybe because it's just that Rip's in the picture. I bet Hirano didn't expect Rip to be that popular among the Hellsing women.
If there was a Hellsing Top Female Fan Chart (Universal), I'd assume it'd look like this:
1. Seras Victoria
2. Sir Integra Wingates Fairbrook Hellsing
3. Rip Van Winkle
4. Yumie Takagi
5. Girly/WomanCard (If ya into that kinda thing :D)
6. Heinkel Wolfe (?) XD
7. Zorin Blitz
Also, I've been in the military for 8 years, and understanding regulations and customs, I can relate to what decisions each organization had to make. A lot of it is absolute and non-questionable...that's the "autocratic" approach. That's the command style that Hellsing, Millennium and Iscariot's approach with Father Anderson actually using the "Bueracrat" approach after witnessing Maxwell's resolve. In the military, if it's a "lawful order" then it can not be questioned. Questions come later.
For example: Superior tells you to guard this post. That's a lawful order. Superior tells you to pour water on that guy's head. That's unlawful since you're doing something juvenile, in which, you can tell your superior that you're not going to do it.
Now, you kinda see why I like Rip from a military point of view. All she did was the first example. But I really like her "outside" the military. As a character.
Anyway, I appreciate that ya'll like any of the fan art I've done so far and I'll keep you updated with any Hellsing BS and Dusk art.

For example, Rip Van Winkle actually has more panel time in comparison to her debut in episode 4. If they would add her actual scenes from the comic in Episode 4, her screen time would be around 23 minutes rather than the 16 minutes. Nit picky, yea, but her character felt more flushed out than feeling "hey, we're Nazis, bad guys. Stop us." :/
