hard drive destroyed

so last night i decided to be a dumbass and hit my computer a little too hard after it was loading really slow...and apparently i hit it hard enough to destroy the reading/writing mechanism on my hard drive...so 5 years worth of data (if there is any left) is now entombed on the platter, unable to be accessed unless i pay 500-1000$ to have a hard drive forensics expert extract it for me. originally i thought it was just a booting issue cuz the computer bluescreened for half a second at starting, only to reset and do the same thing again and again. but after staying up until 4 in the morning running diagnostics, the error code it gave me was hard drive related...and after going to two different computer places today to test the drive, i dont think i'm ever going to be able to get at the data that is still there unless i pay a fortune, which was technically supposed to be money for a car but yeah...clearly i'm gonna have to get a new laptop cuz i'm back typing on the computer i used from before i joined DA, which is itself starting to fail cuz its so old >.<
i dont have any words to describe how devastating this is. there were things on that hard drive that could never be replaced, photos and drawings i never backed up or uploaded, RPs i saved, music videos i made, and just about everything else that anybody would consider extremely important that dont have a price tag. its like having half your family die, i almost cried in the car when i left Geek Squad.
so now i have to pay for a new laptop without any way of being able to save the data from my old and now useless one. if money werent an issue i would pay that 500-1000 bucks to recover the data (even at the expense of having somebody else look at all my files...) but thats money i just dont have. i will be able to get a new laptop though, but only just, and it will still be bittersweet without everything from my old one. if only i could turn back time and fucking drop kick myself before i hit my laptop, but i cant. this is officially the worst day of my life and i only got my own dumb ass to blame

though i remembered i did sent a few people unuploaded pics over email, and i never delete my sent files, so some of those pics might still be in my email sent folder =D but as for the RPs, videos, and other documents...probably gone until i can recover the platter on the hard drive >.<
still gonna get a backup hard drive and the USB cable thingie for plugging a hard drive in x3 idk...might be 500 bucks by the time this is all over, half my savings will be gone by then along with the hope of ever getting a car, which was the goal of that money in the first place >.<
whatever...is what i get for abusing my things...probably the most expensive punch i've ever made in my life D=

thanks for your concern ^-^ will try piecing what i can back together from my email sent files, but yeah, things like my videos and documents/RPs are gonna be entombed (or gone forever) on that hard drive until i can get somebody to do a platter swap or something
See What You Can Do To Do It Yourself. I Know A Few Guys Who Did That.
Also, Get An External Drive Or A Larger Flash Drive. When You Get Your Files Back, Store Them Safely.
heh, if i had the right tools and proper know how i would definitely try doing it myself, but computers arent my speciality ^^; i've seen videos of people swapping out circuit boards and platters on youtube before, but it seems REALLY risky lol plus apparently if i want to swap platters, i need to find a hard drive that was made in the same year/month as my old one (which being 5 years old now...is getting harder to find D= )

Get a/some pindrive(s)
Or, look at a website called idrive.com. Idrive will back up your files safety and securely so in case your computer breaks, freezes, gets stolen, gets a virus, gets blown up, whatever, your files will be backed up for your new system. 5GBs is free, but there are fees after that, but it's not too expensive.
so TL;DR, a replacement harddrive sould be availiable online for about $50, so save you from having to get a new laptop. Saves some money ya? and you may be able to fix your harddive with replacement parts.
yeah thats what most computer forums are saying too, that the head drive might be what is broken (which means the data is still there as long as the heads didnt touch/scratch the platter, which i find it hard to believe if they did, i couldent have hit the thing that hard XDXD but i dont know if they did, havent taken it apart to see) believe it or now, swapping the platter actually looks easier to me than replacing the head drive lol granted my hard drive only has 1 platter so it might be easier, but idk...am not quite ready yet XDXD plus i have been able to find identical model hard drives (same month and year and everything) but...they're all almost 150 bucks >.< cheaper ones i've seen with a manufacture date a few months to a year different were in the 30-50 dollar range, but they might not be compatible with the one i got XD so i could drop 150 bucks for an identical model hard drive and save it for when i know how to operate on them, would be another big expense but yeah...might be worth it over professional services
yes thats exactly how it feels XD might have lost the battle for now, but that HDD is just sitting in a static proof bag in my dresser, sooner or later i'm gonna get that data back, somehow >:3

yes even i have the courtesy not to wish a hard drive failure on even my worst of enemies, its a horrible thing to have to go through, no different than having a loved family member die (really no different, actually, i went through all the steps in the Grieving Process before i finally accepted the loss) but i suppose lulz can be generated out of just about anything x3 whatever, i've moved on, gonna be ordering a replacement hard drive soon (not gonna mess around with buying a laptop like last week...was a disaster (the damn thing showed up broken >.<) still waiting on my refund. the replacement drive will cost less than 100 bucks so yeah, will be a good outcome once i boot Windows 7 onto it ^^
