i fly Delta all the time, and they're reasonably priced and smooth rides.

What would you say is a smooth ride? I've never been flying before :/

very little turbulence. but that's more determined by the weather and not the plane. I think all airlines are the same, just prices. 2 pieces of advice: Always buy flight insurance (it's like $30), and book at least a month prior.

From past experience, I will never fly United again (I got screwed over hard by them). US Airways tends to be more expensive in general. By a process of elimination, that leaves American, who are OK, if I remember correctly. (US Airways are also OK, if you can get them for a comparable price.)

If you haven't already done so, you might look at a price comparison site like Expedia (or even Google, surprisingly) to give you an idea of pricing. However, I've found it can sometimes be better is to book with the airline directly rather than through the price comparison site, since they may give you a better deal (it depends on the airline). Oh yeah, and do your ticket shopping in Incognito/Private mode on your browser - some airlines will raise the price if they see you coming back to the site.

I used to fly Frontier all the time (for about 8 years), but since they've cut back on almost everything, I'm giving Southwest a chance, and have been pretty happy with them so far. The only problem with both of those is that they are more regional, so they don't always fly where you need to go.
