How do you clean your suit?
How do you clean and wash your fursuit? I'm particularly interested in hearing from other Mischief Makers and/or people with Dreamvision Creations hooves, but any feedback on this would be appreciated.
I have a partial fursuit made by
mischiefmakers, with Dreamvision Creations hooves used on the hands and feet. I am very invested in keeping my suit clean and in good condition. Often I am concerned that I'm doing something "wrong" or not doing as good of a job as I should.
A while back I noticed that Clopan's ears, arms, and beard had a greasy, messy look. I'd brush them, but they'd revert to looking bad almost immediately. I figured they had accumulated oils from people's hands and general grime from the environment, so I contacted Mischief Makers for recommendations on cleaning. They recommended Folex, which helped some, but not as much as I had hoped. I wound up gently washing the visibly dirty parts with a water-Woolite mixture. This seemed to work better, but it was pretty awkward washing and rinsing the ears because I was so paranoid about getting the head wet.
I have yet to wash the feet. I really want to, because they're in contact with the ground and naturally they get the most dirty. They seem to be built on some kind of Croc-like shoes, with outdoor soles and Dreamvision Creations hooves.I can't tell if foam is used in them or not.

I love Matrices -- she is so helpful! :) She provides great tutorials like these!
Here is what I did for Muse's ears (and frankly I think it'd be easier for you since Clopan has the long ears) Fill up a bathroom sink with cold water (and your choice of detergent and/or Woolite) hold the head and either run the faucet water over the ears or dip the ears into the water. If your counter is built in such a way you may even be able to lay the head on the counter and then you can work the water and suds into the ears. I think scrubbing is okay if it's done gently, just keep in mind fake fur doesn't grow back. ;) Then for me it's a mixture of air drying and combing and everything until dry.
As far as feet paws go......it depends. I agree with the above comments. Probably best to wipe them down because it's not advisable to soak foam unless you have a sure fire way to get everything COMPLETELY dry or you risk mildew. Insides I'd say Lysol spray (or wipes which I use to clean the inside of my heads) if you want to go crazy you can probably clean the ankle bits (wherever there isn't foam) in a fashion similar to the ears. If you take a damp cloth with some detergent (maybe like....liquid soap or something for the hooves...though you may want to spot test on them before you try any cleaning products on them) you can probably wipe and gently clean your feets decent enough. I'd clean all the fur around the bottom of the feet but aside from a quick wipe down I'd leave the outdoor soles alone. IMO. Hope that helps! :)
