I will also say that the legal recourse on this is important. If nothing else through this person under the bus on rip off reports so that she can't do this to others.

Loss of income only can happen if someone cancels/she refunds anyone. Our lawyer looked into this after the hit and run incident as I lost 3 solid months of work grieving and caring for my sister, but since I gave no refunds and no one cancelled I had no actual monetary loss to claim, just lost time, and lost time does not count for anything :/

That seems highly illegal. What state are you in? Tenant and landlord laws almost always favor the tenants. You have to be given certain notices, time to comply, and eviction is a process. It's actually a long legal process, my family have rented houses before and it's illegal to just kick someone out, and you can't move other people in right away either. You have legal rights and protections as a tenant, use them.

Most states have laws / ordinances on how that stuff works - for example - If you live in the State of Washington - their legal code can be found here

They require a minimum of 20 days from a written notice - I would be sure to mention this to the landlord and tell them you will contact the authorities regarding their breaking of said laws

Wow that really sucks! I had a similar thing happen to me years back where I was basically evicted even though it wasn't called that. Pretty low move from them, but it worked out in the end cause I found a way better place with way more laid back management.

Hope it all works out for you! If you live near Chicago we could possibly house you for a little while if you needed more time to find you own space.

Yeah. We basically were living therebkind of under the table. As everyone besides the headnof household was. My income isn't exactly... constant or choice to many places. We have 30 days. But that doesn't mean they can't make it awkward. It's basically hih tension. And lots of passive aggressiveness. It's so frustrating. I don't even want to be home. But I want to get on with my life. I can't believe it went from. Regular stuff to horrible in two days.

Under the table is not your problem. Even people illegally squatting on a property have legal rights (it sure sucks as a landlord though let me tell ya). So even if you're living rent free, or with a non-written rental contract the tenant protection laws still apply for you. Anyone allowed to live on the property by the owner for any reason with or without rent payment is considered a tenant and covered by the laws protecting you from property damage, searches, abuse, and laws dictating the steps in the eviction process and what notices your landlord must provide you with and what time frame you will have. Remember, as a tenant you have more legal protections than the landlord. Know your local city and state laws.

That's a good thing to think about! 0.0 we were given 30 days. I think making things awkward isn't something that's illegal. I just felt like they were trying to make things awkward for us. but we talked things out and everyone was just stressed and didn't communicate in the little time she had to get notice that her family was kicked out of a home, and drive to get all of their stuff, and work. She's not ... the most professional lease holder. but things just got really out of hand really fast. her parents were actually kicked out with a 3 day notice. and they really need to attack their landlord for it. that is wayyyy not legal.
