Plans for Android...

While I was developing a test game for fog.com, the Android SDK updated and the unserviced phone my sister gave me became useless for development (The game no longer compiled properly to Gingerbread OS). That’s about to change…I got a new unserviced phone in the mail with 4.1 OS (previously I had 2.3).
Don’t panic. I have no intentions to abandon Superbird. I’m going to get it to a decently playable part before I even start Android Development again. But just to give you an idea what you have to look in forward for…
There are two Android games I want to make.
One I already started but paused when I got the test from fog.com, and of course cancelled when I couldn’t use Android anymore– Emotican Wars 2. The computer version will be free, but I will use this as preperation for the second Android game. The Android version will have a one-time in-game purchase for the full version (Just $1, calm down), and at the end of every level (if possible), you can post screenshots of your victory on Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr for extra currency. And no, you cannot buy Currency in this game, and it’s only used to buy npcs who can help you.
The second game will be a freemium game. It’s not the most ideal, but it will rely on FTP and SQL, which will no doubt cause Justhost to ask me for more money when I eat up all their “unlimited” bandwidth, but this is a game I wanted to make anyway. You basically spend credits by building a world that is played as a top-down shooter (think of the Contra side scrollers, except top-down like Zelda). To earn credits, you travel to other people’s worlds and fight monsters.
This freemium game has a kicker, though. You have to set an allowance on how much you’re allowed to spend each week, with the maximum spending at $10 a week. This is the only way I can build a freemium game without feeling like a total jerk.
My plans for the freemium game is to hire some graphic artists and split half of the profits with them. I’ll probably end up with multiple artists, so their share of the half will be based on a points system.
Anyway, that’s all I have for you right now. See you all on your phones soon!
