Five Nights at Freddy's: The Killer Revealed! (Spoilers)
General
I have been pondering the lore of Five Nights at Freddy's and I think I've finally nailed down who the killer is, and oddly I seem to be the only one who suspects this person. So, to figure out whether I am crazy genius or just crazy, I've decided to post my theory here and get it scrutinized by whoever wants to read it. I've broken the lore down into sections, if you are well versed in FNAF lore and popular theories, you may skip down to the last section to see my killer pick. If you need a little background information, then read on!
The Timeline
The first and most important thing to know about the Five Nights at Freddy's series is that the games are not in chronolgical order. If you are so unfamiliar with the lore that this is news to you, I recommend going here http://youtu.be/d1kw1RmzrPc?t=2m5s The game theorists will explain why we know the games are not in order, and as a bonus, explain the whole timeline of events. The short explanation though is that FIRST there was Fredbear's Diner, which only had one animatronic, Freddy. At this location, one child was killed by an unknown killer. This place was closed, and then opened a new Pizzeria which features the Original Freddie, Foxy, Bonnie and Chica (the fuzzy ones). This location does not appear in the game, but is referred to during FNAF2 when the phone guy talks about the "old location". At this location, five children were killed by the same man. Then in 1987, the FNAF2 Pizzeria opened up featuring new "Toy" animatronics. At this location, an unknown number of children were murdered. Then in 1993(ish) A new pizzeria is opened, the store in FNAF1. Presumably, no children are killed here. Finally, about nowish, an amusement park opens an attraction based on the "unsolved" murders. Got it? Okay, let's move on.
The Ghosts
It is generally believed that Original (fuzzy) Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, Golden Freddy and the puppet are Haunted by the ghosts of dead children. If you would like a thorough breakdown of this theory, I recommend again, the Game theorists: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1kw1RmzrPc&feature=youtu.be&t=6m4s I will run it down very quickly though.
When you die in FNAF2, you are frequently treated to one of four little mini games. It is generally believed these minigames detail events that actually took place. Here is a video detailing all four mini games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrDFZ42MJwc It is generally believed the first minigame details the murder of the first child at Fredbear's Diner. It is believed the ghost of this child with his streaming tears is haunting and animating the puppet in FNAF2. The second mini game shows Foxy at an unfamiliar location. This is generally believed to detail the Missing children incident written about in FNAF1 http://freddy-fazbears-pizza.wikia......ldren_Incident Foxy (and no humans) finds five children murdered by the purple man. Another mini game then has puppet (controlled by you) placing these five dead kids into animatronics. It may appear there are only four, but for a single frame before the Golden Freddy Jump scare, a fifth dead child appears in the center of the screen. It is believed these five dead children are the ones now haunting the fuzzy animatronics, with the fifth in a detached ghost state as golden freddy. This means that heading into FNAF2, the furry animatronics are ALREADY haunted. But interestingly enough, the toy animatronics (exclusive to FNAF2) are not.
The Purple Man
The purple man has (presumably) never actually been shown in game, but is heavily implied to be the sole murderer of all the child deaths referred to in the games. Here's what we know:
1. The purple man has killed upwards of 8 children, possibly more, at at least three of the fazbear locations, including the original diner.
2. The purple man has never been caught, all the murders and disappearances are referred to as unsolved
3. The purple man has worked as Security for Fazbear Entertainment, indicated by his security badge in his rare appearance in one of the FNAF2 death mini games
4. The purple man died BETWEEN the events of FNAF1 and FNAF3 while donning Springtrap to defend himself from the ghost kids. This occurred in the secret room of FNAF1's pizzeria.
5. The purple man is now entombed inside Springtrap, and is quite dead, and the sole antagonist of FNAF3
Based on this evidence, particularly point 3, we can narrow down our list of candidates to three suspects. Onward!
The Suspects
Since the purple man is wearing his security badge during a death mini game which takes place at the FNAF2 location, we can deduce that the purple man MUST have been working security during the events of FNAF2. This reveals only three candidates:
1. Phone Guy (The man who calls you in FNAF1 and 2, and is heard on audio recordings in FNAF3)
2. Day Shift Guy (The person mentioned working nights before Jeremy Fitzgerald in FNAF2, and Day shift thereafter)
3. Jeremy Fitzgerald (Your character in FNAF2 for nights 1-6)
Phone Guy
If you watch the rest of the Game theorists's video, he will go on to name Phone guy as the murderer, and it was a semi-popular theory until FNAF3 was released and proved his innocence. In FNAF1, Phone guy dies when the animatronics gang up on him. The recording in which he dies has audio cues from all four of the animatronics. However, in the final mini-game of FNAF3, it is shown the purple guy dies AFTER the events of FNAF1, while donning springtrap to escape the ghost children (who are disembodied from the dismantled animatronics) This means that the purple man cannot be the phone guy, as their deaths are quite different.
Day Shift Guy
The most popular theory right now is the one that seems heavily implied by the FNAF2 phone calls, that Day shift guy, whoever he was, meddled with the toy animatronics, killed some kids during his day shift, then disappeared so he presumably would not be caught. It does seem pretty solid, but this fails to explain two critical parts of the lore. Which I will get into next.
The Theory
I believe the true identity of the killer is Jeremy Fitzgerald, because the Day Shift Guy theory fails to explain both the Bite of 87, and the hostility of the toy animatronics.
Firstly, In FNAF1, the very first night, Phone guy refers to an incident known as "The bite of 87", unfortunately, there is no elaboration on this event and all we can really gather is that one of the animatronics bit somebody who was human and had at least one brain. If the Day shift guy theory is accurate, then this event is never mentioned in FNAF2, when it would have presumably taken place.
Secondly, if the theory about the ghosts is accurate, then going into FNAF2, only the fuzzy original animatronics are haunted, the toy animatronics are not. However, as early as night 1, they are already attacking Jeremy Fitzgerald with intent to kill. Most people would point out the last day's news article that lists the toy animatronics as malfunctioning. However, phone guy does not mention the toy animatronics being tamprered with until night 4. I believe the answer lies with the phone message on night 1:
They've spent a small fortune on these new animatronics, uh, facial recognition, advanced mobility, they even let them walk around during the day. Isn't that neat? -clears throat But most importantly, they're all tied into some kind of criminal database, so they can detect a predator a mile away.
I believe the animatronics are functioning perfectly, and have spotted Jeremy Fritzgerald as a criminal, and are trying to kill him as part of their security functions. I believe it was Jeremy who attempted to meddle with the toy animatronics' facial recognition so that he could not be recognized as a killer, or at least be able to blame their attacks on their malfunctioning. I believe this tampering is what the police investigation is currently focused on at this point. And finally, I believe Day Shift guy was the unwitting victim of these malfunctions, being bitten on day five, leaving his position open with no replacement and becoming the victim of the bite of 87. This would leave Day 6 with no security guard whatsoever, allowing Jeremy Fitzgerald the perfect opportunity to go to the store during the day, don springtrap, and kill some kids. He arrives to work at night six not to arouse suspicion, and takes the day shift opening on day 7. Thus solving the mystery of the bite of 87, and why the toy animatronics are so homicidal.
I know there are at least two phone-guy statements that seem a little off in this new context, but it's clear the designers of the game LOVE to hide lore as cryptically as possible. I don't think they would so heavily imply the guilt of Day shift guy without having an ulterior motive. =D
Any thoughts are welcome. Hope you enjoyed.

Probably to make sure they don't hurt anyone
Fazbear entertainment doesn't strike me as the most safety-conscious organizations.
Also I love your icon <3
And thanks.
as his "tampering with animatronics" was (aside from picking a difficulty) was him destroying the facial recognition.
him doing that, makes them attack Jeremy, being unable to recognize him as anything in the dark.
and he comes back, between day 5 and 6, easily undetected by the animatronics, and fits into a costume to do his dirty deeds.
*w*
1: it's implied the predator database facial recognition is why they kill you in FNaF 2 (and why wearing the mask protects you from them, but not from the four disassembled animatronics- with your face covered, they can't recognize you and try to kill you)
2: In the phone call for night 6, phone guy talks about having to stay late the next day for a children's birthday party, and talks about someone using one of the suits, and I felt this implied that the event where the purple man kills the four children occurs either following night 5 or night 6 (I favor night 6) rather than before it.
3: this is possibly a plot hole, I think- the phone guy recording talks about boarding up a room in FNaF 3, it's pretty clear this is the room where the purple man got caught in springtrap- thus, phone guy had to have been alive at the time that the purple man was caught. That would mean either he actually survived FNaF 1, or that the bad ending of 3 is the canon ending, since that would be the only way that the animatronics were still active for the events of FNaF 1 If this is the case, then the Bite of 87 could actually be when springtrap was found sprung around the purple man, and it was a rumor/coverup to hide what had really happened, the body boarded up in the safe room to conceal the death and protect the chain's identity.
No. That isn't actually feasibly possible. Even for that time period. My original theory, if you want to listen to it, just poke me. However, for the above statement, the suits are possessed, and FNAF3 is where it ends in the "present" time line. However, I believe that there is one last game. The penultimate prequel. The original "Freddy's."
Say every month or so a technician comes along and puts in new information on local suspects into the animatronics to keep them up to date
Looks like we aren't the only people who thinks it's Jeremy.
