Things are moving along. (Fire update)
They’re going better than one would expect. We found an apartment, they were very understanding about everything. We don’t have any furniture yet so we’re staying here a bit longer, while internet and heat and everything gets turned on and while they bring in a new toilet and everything. We caught it before it even went on the market, they were still putting down new flooring and painting. It looks great and it’s in a similar location, just further down the street. Fair enough that we don’t have to see the old burnt building but that’ll be getting knocked down soon anyway, once the investigations are over.
Once we get in there and figure out what kind of furniture we need things will be easier with non-cash donations. I’ve been working on some amazon wishlists. One with things we’ll be needing, and the other with things that we lost in the fire. I’d link it but currently, since we’re not at the address yet, no one can donate that way. So once we move in and we at least have a mattress, I’ll put that wishlist link up.
I’m healing pretty well, I got my voice back finally and I have a little shortness of breath but it’s mostly in my throat and it’s not all the time, just usually when I breathe deeply. It’s probably the asthma, I’m getting looked at again on monday to get my stitches removed and get some blood work done to make sure that the bruising on my thighs isn’t going to cause any sort of serious muscle damage.
We got some more clothes with the card that Red Cross gave us yesterday and after driving around for that, getting the lease signed and getting up REALLY early in order to go down and get grant money to have our first month’s rent and security paid for, I was wiped last night. I was going to write this then but I ended up passing out with the laptop on me and Jet had to get me all undressed and set me up to sleep. It’s been nothing but long days.
With how things are shaping up and the help that everyone wants to give, honestly, we just might be able to get new computers all set up. People want to take care of all of the furnishing. We’ll see in the coming days who comes through and who does, and how donations go. You guys have been so good to us in this time of crisis and it’s been really heartwarming. Just, with people rallying around us on all fronts it’s easy to feel that everything is going to be alright. And if we can get legitimate computers again it’ll be all the better.
Thank you all so much for caring about us.

This is so good to hear! I'm glad things are slowly returning to normal. Given all that's gone on, the long days aren't surprising. It's awesome to hear how well people have come together to help out. Keep healing up, and when you have a wishlist thing setup, I'll be sure to post it up on the paw-mail journals to encourage other folks to help if they can as well. Glad to help Sheela - we all are.
