Have some of my favourite racing games.
Need For Speed II SE: Fond memories of that morning of 1997 with my dad setting up our then new Pentium II PC, hearing Windows 95's startup sound repeatedly, and getting to play this beloved classic.
Runs either via Glide or DirectDraw. Apparently, many players of this game didn't seem to care about the higher levels of difficulty given by simulation mode & expert opponents. And The glitchy sound heard in this video is caused by Windows 7, though there's a trick to fix this. Interested?
Battle Gear 2 a.k.a. Tokyo Road Race: One of those games Initial D fans might enjoy. First developed for arcades, then ported to PS2.
Really, it would've been cool if the Takahashi bros ever got a taste of Bunta's son-owning skills.
And these other two go dedicated to certain someone.
San Francisco Rush (The Rock: Alcatraz Edition, mostly): One of Atari Games' last memorable arcade cabinet racers, never got a perfect home port. It either sucked (PSX), looked almost on par with the arcade version but had rearranged sounds and music (MAT3 & the Glide-only PC port), or these were in their place and the overall game had been cut down (N64), thus needing a decent PC for emulation via MAME.
MAT3 port for GameCube shown, with user-made arcade sound mod.
Daytona USA 2: The classic Daytona USA with more macho. Never got a home port of any sort.
Power Edition ran via Supermodel emulator shown here.

FA+

I'm surprised San Fran Rush hasn't gotten any love recently. I wonder what the game would be like if they crossed Scud Race with Rush. I think that idea has a ton of potential. Because honestly, if you take the low gravity jumps out of Rush, the game is kinda boring.
Also if they release a new Daytona and it actually lives up to its legacy, I will never complain about video games again.
Warner Bros/Time Warner are the current oners of Midway's franchises so I think it's about bombing them with letters asking for a perfect port of The Rock and/or a worthy sequel. If Daytona USA multiplayer took off well in modern consoles, then Rush might aswell.
