I stumbled on an idea earlier. Quartz has free-floating electrons in it, and I was wondering- would it be possible to get a crystal carved a certain way, and then artificially grow another crystal of a certain shape around it? If one could, then the different electron patterns/types could possibly interact to act as a battery. A crystal battery.

I've heard that before. Quartz and other crystals were used in wikkan and other occultic (sp?) rituals because they had 'good vibes'. In fact, I had a toy magic wand that required I put a quartz in the unscrewable handle to make it 'realistic'.

I don't know about growing it, though. It grows the same way as rock candy. As long as there is sugar in the water, it'll be attracted to the rest of the crystal. So you need a lot of powdered quartz, I think, to make a crystal grow. Also you need a base to make it attach to, shaped like what you want it to grow.

Of course, this is just me theorizing. It could turn out positively wrong.

No, not that kind of grow, I mean the way they "grow" diamonds. The surrounding crystal would have to be a single crystal, otherwise it wouldn't work right- a bunch of much smaller crystals would push the electrons outside the dual crystal, instead of focusing them inward at the central crystal. Also, molding it wouldn't work right, as the molecules would inevitably be misaligned, the crystal would instead have to be carved into the desired shape.

Also, if you could get it spinning in a gyroscope as seen in comic #229 (http://www.rhjunior.com/totq/00229.html), I think it would generate an energy field, better known as a forcefield.

I think you might have to settle for a smaller scale, though =P

One could probably make one that size, actually, but I think you would need to add more layers to the crystal. So, in this order(from center), the crystal would have to be: clear - black - purple - yellow.

One could also make one that was about the size of one of those "jumbo" lolipops.

That's the only combination that will allow the energy to interact correctly. And it's really more of a personal note anyway, because those are the colors that represent the things I want that layer to do and the properties I want it to have.

Really, don't think about it too hard. My mind automatically sorts information into colors and properties. Very complex, very difficult to explain.

Growing a single crystal to a specific size and shape is near impossible without a proper laboratory.
Thats why its easier to grow mulitple crystals of the same type using the same solution over the same time simultaneously. It makes it much much easier, and its also faster.
I like growing crystals. I'm obessive about growing both crystals and mushrooms.

Not that kind of grow. I mean like growing with heat and molten rock, the way real quartz is made naturally. Also, you could cut the outer crystal with a laser instead of growing it to that shape. A laser is the only way to cut it evenly enough. A minuscule imperfection would release the electrons asymmetrically and in an uncontrolled way.

Mushrooms look weird to me. But growing stuff is cool.

And uh, about the actual journal, fursuits are more just a bit of fun or hobby than to seriously be a furry in RL or anything. While most people do want to make it look like their fursona, everyone accepts that it is not perfect, but it is as close as they can get.

I honestly know that some people who want to be more like a reptilian have their tongues split, shave off their hair, and develop overly callussed skin. You get the tongue, scales, and with tattoos, almost perfect appearence. You still need to get a tail of some sort, but thats not really that possible.

I know one of my friends had has tongue split, but he chose the permanent method. About a month of painful bloody torture in my opinion, I couldn't go thrue with that... do you know what I'm even talking about btw?
