IMVUFA

A company that has been around for the better part of a decade is extremely unlikely to commit to an unprofitable acquisition. That being said, how does IMVU intend to profit from acquiring Fur Affinity?
Ad-space? FA is touted as a website with thousands of unique and return visits every day. Enough to warrant a buyout? Why not just buy ad-space if that’s the case?
Cross-interest? Dragoneer mentioned that this is a contributing factor in reply to one of hundreds of concerned comments, amidst a handful of supportive ones. If cross-interest was the driving factor in IMVU’s purchase of Fur Affinity, then they’re likely reeling from the negative response that flooded Dragoneer’s journal. Regardless, there will be fresh traffic to IMVU over the next few days/weeks. Enough to cover “about $20K worth of new hardware“ perhaps. Still, IMVU needs to see profit.
Dragoneer mentioned “We’ll also get paid coding help, additional resources to expand, grow and make the site everything it’s needed to be” in reply to concerned commentary. Promises of an improved front-end UI aside, IMVU is likely within it’s right to suggest significant alterations to how users interact with the site.
Online business is thriving on a micro-payment economy. While Dragoneer asserts “Decisions remain with me… I did get it in writing I’d still have creative direction over the site. There are no plans to change anything other than make improvements” interpretation of the term improvements is vague as best. It’s well within reason to imagine IMVU implementing some form of micro-payment goodies not unlike Deviant Art’s premium benefits package in the near future.
Change is understandably jarring. Is IMVU looking to destroy Fur Affinity? Why would they spend money on something they intend to break? Perhaps they’re going to fix the front and back end of Fur Affinity and provide all FA provides now, but with an optional subscription model with robust benefits for both artists and consumers that’s worth purchasing? Perhaps IMVU will enforce a PG rating user agreement? Either you’ll carry on, or you’ll drift to one of the many other sites. History repeats. This essentially changes nothing for you and maybe something for Fur Affinity. Let’s see what happens!

FA+

as far as I know, they're only going to use screenshots of the site for advertisement (as per http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6588795/)
just because your FA GOD Dragoneer makes a journal denying it doesnt mean its true, hes been up to no good before so i dont know why everyone feels like hes the most truthful person in the world
honestly i could care less for myself because i only have a few pics posted but for some of the people on here who make a living doing art... it could become a major problem...
In addition, the mere fact that you're complaining about it so loudly means that you DO care.
edit: granted I watched all this happen, I'm just choosing to step back and wait it out myself. they can't take anything till the ToS is updated saying they can. we have to be able to see and agree to that before they can. for now its just if/when that happens.
Also, I was responding to be polite, I wasnt making an argument against what you were saying at all. I was actually cooperating and giving more detail to what i first said, but your agressive responses dont phase me and wont rile me. So thanks for the banter but the only thing i care about is the artist friends i have that could be affected by this sale.
We'll have to wait and see. If they do implement micro-payments like they do on DA that really wouldn't be the end of the world.
wait an see people shouldnt adopt a knee jerk response aka DONT PANIC (/HGTG)
i have all my stories an such archived on my pc and backup drive so i can move them if needed
Dragoneer mentioned in the past wanting to do paid features on FA, where as it is now is free but extra features would be a pay-for thing, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was considered as part of this deal.
We are a private community for good reasons. That I see not changing anytime soon.
My worry is that they will start flooding here if there are ads cross posted on their website for here....
And even if it is accepted as apart of IMVU (accepted as a community) it will only then become a fad. It waters down what we see as a culture, or subsidiary culture. Furry is a unique combination of rituals, religious beliefs, ways of thinking and ways of behaving that unify a group of people. Essentially that is the definition of a culture.
To take that and expose it to the public as if were a fashion statement, isn't what furry stands for.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
Sorry, couldn't help it. :p It's nice to see someone not in a blind panic or talking about the evils of big business. I've LITERALLY already seen someone make some sort of vague comment about business never keeping it's promises being why they are leaving. :p
