A seriouse question...

Ok, I'm NOT being a wise ass and I'm NOT trying to stir up trouble.
Lately there has been a LOT of drama and debate over this site being sold to IMVU. Can somebody please explain to me WHO IMVU is and why it's so bad that they bought this site?
I really don't know.

I really don't know.
FA+

The nutshell version is IMVU is a kind of 3D chat site like the guys above said, and from a quick survey of comments about it it is significantly more limited than Second Life. They now own FA and Dragoneer is now just the site admin.
The "Drama"seems to comes from a few areas.
1, That Dragoneer did this very quietly and the sale actually happened in January while he was requesting/accepting donations to keep FA running. So that all calls into question honesty, and truthfulness involving real money, and all of that. If you didn't donate anything and aren't worried about him that's a moot concern. That's kind of an ongoing drama issue for FA. Since he's still going to be the admin that bit of stuff still lingers.
2, That IMVU has a dramatically different tolerance for adult content. The little bit I've gleamed from both comments about, and checking IMVU's site itself, is that there is no allowance for anything adult there. Or at best it's very restrictive. Plus there is a lot of stuff that requires you to pay real money for. So the larger concern that I think would affect most everyone here is will IMVU eventually transfer those restrictions here. Which would make us pay for adult access, and/or completely clear FA of adult material to fit their community standards.
3, Is that IMVU doesn't have a great reputation for protecting IP, so a lot of the artists are concerned about their images and stuff suddenly belonging to IMVU to do whatever they want with it. I'm not sure how real this concern is, but a lot of people are worried about it, and want a firm answer from someone in charge that says 'they can't ever do that'.
The upshot is that IMVU is supposed to provide money and resources to improve FA with the goal of increasing their visibility among a larger user base. Which did work, as I never heard of them before either. So if that is all that happens and everything stays the same then it's mostly a win/win for us, but if any of the above concerns do come true I think it is a deal breaker for the vast majority of the user base and they'll drop FA completely. I know I will if any part of 2 or 3 comes true.
Whatever happens I do think we are going to get hit with a whole lot more adds. That does seem to be a certainty.
just dont worry bout it fluffy butt
