Yeah. I never charge for art I've done of them. Doesn't feel right.

Well It would be ok to charge for art you've done of them. I mean if you do commissions just charge the appropriate price. But in this case I think its more about people adopting a character- and then selling it for much more of it's value.

At first, I didnt mind people adding the price of their own art while following their commission prices. but its like i stated above, people do and will bump their commission prices for the purpose of profiting and gaining more than its actual value.

Which I understand. I recently sold a peice myself. Only charged what I paid and one even included a free piece of gift art cause i didn't feel right charging for it XD

Good. I had to put that rule on my own right away... though I don't know if I can even trust the commissions they bought from others, so I just make it the rule they can only sell their adopt for how much they pay for from me.

If something smells fishy, I usually ask how much each commission cost them to make sure they didn't bump the price thinking they could get away with it.
and if im still unsure, i'll just go to the commissioner themselves for a double check.

But what if they sell without you knowing first? D: What can you do for that?

I've had cases like this b4 and..sadly there's not much you can do about it.
Though, you could either tell the person who bought it that they pretty much bought it for more than it was worth, and hopefully file a refund to get their money back
or simply ban the person from purchasing anything else from you.

i've had it happen too and it's kind of sad that people insist on making money by exploiting. on top of that for the times i've witnessed it, i have never, ever seen it go toward anything but more frivolous purchases. these people just make terrible investments for more terrible investments. people who need the extra dollar for something useful/needy generally have the courtesy to ask before going ahead and assuming it's morally right and/or allowed.

As for the adoooopts... yeah, I don't even know what to think about that. I find it appalling that anyone actually thought that was "okay" in some way. You don't commission yourself, so don't expect someone else to pay you for the art you did...yanno, for yourself...just what.. |D

the real kicker for me is that I purposefully undercharge for some of my species so people who want em can afford them.. just to have them snapped up by serial resellers. I've see it happen with things like noels cheaper dreamies and popular species myo slots as well and it's so disappointing to see because it just makes me wanna drive up my prices again so they don't get impulse bought so often .-.

but like I want to stay affordable? and affordable brings in more customers anyway?

I do think it's an impulse buy thing, and that's why I reckon higher prices tend to help a little? I may be wrong ;;

Welcome back Hana! ;w; And Im kinda glad you made this rule...I resold my eeray from quite in the beginning of eerays cuz I just never used her, but I did add in the price of art I personally did of her (though discounted a bit) and sadly shes being resold again already...but plus 1 piece and for 100$ more. :< I deeply regret it tbh...i was already hesitant on reselling, I wanted her to go to a good home...but now it just feels like she was bought to turn a profit and Im honestly upset about it. u_u what cha gonna do, right?

To be fair, while I /do/ count my own artwork towards the final worth of the character, I normally like... almost chop it in half compared to what it would cost in terms of getting a commission from me. Normally 'cause what I draw for myself doesn't really fall within the exact qualifications of my commissions. (EG: My commissioned sketches are cleaner than sketches I do for myself, the style is consistent in my commissions while it tends to fluctuate when I draw things for myself, etc)

i realize that this might hinder your own sales, but perhaps not, considering how super popular your designs are...but have you ever thought about creating a "no resale" clause in your terms? or maybe only under VERY strict regulations, ie they have to discuss it with you first?

This is a good new rule because it'll stop people from buying a design only to resell for profit and to avoid sketchy resells in general. :c I have been told that I purchased a design for more than what it actually costs, so lesson learned. I will most definitely be checking commissioned art prices next time or at least asking around first. ;;
