Cut for One Direction

So I hear that One Direction is splitting up and, par for the course, teens are cutting themselves out of obsessive idolatry.
This is absolutely pathetic. No band or pop-culture entity gives a shit about you beyond being a demographic. One person cutting themselves is not going to inspire them to get together. Ten people won't. A thousand people won't. Claiming you have the power to enforce your will on a a corporate entity by holding yourself hostage is selfish and moronic. I won't go into any sort of speculation that they did this to boost social media attention (and thus acclaim and sales) because that's not the point. They did what they did and nobody else has a say in the matter.
Don't get me wrong. Self-harm is a tragedy when it's done out of desperation or social desolation. Doing it because your fucking sparkly flash-in-the-pan senpais are breaking up is just showing how little you are removing from the world by threatening to remove yourself from it.
In conclusion, if you're going to go One Direction, make sure it's the right one: down the middle. The rest of us will collectively shrug and continue on the true Direction - forwards.
