I think you should start with short anime instead. How about some classics, like Saint Seiya, Hokuto No Ken (Fist of the North Star), Ranma 1/2...

Or ones like Kill La Kill (if you don't mind the blatant fanservice for both sides...), Gurren Lagen, Death Note...

How about something more obscure like Bokusatsu Tenshi: Dokuro Chan or Dai Mahou Touge? (Watch either at your own risk of sanity)
