you can also contact asus or google about it. its probably not in warrenty anymore but they might have a suggestion, or at least you can ask if they can fix it for a smaller fee than just buying a new one

If it's locked, then you skipped a step that is not mentioned in that guide. You need to unlock your boot loader. https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images Read the section labeled "To flash a system image". Particularly, look at step 4.

It's not that they expect the reader to be on the same level as them, it's that unbricking a device is a much more complicated fix than something like accidentally deleting an email account. Unbricking a device requires you to get down and dirty with it, so you need to be prepared to run into developer threads and developer tools. Also, that site that I linked is a developer page, so it kinda warns you already.

In theory, the factory hard reset option shouldn't be locked ; it comes before the google screen appear on the Nexus models I had in my hands ( 1, 2, and 4 ).

However, that's been years ago. I think it was pressing volume up and holding the powerbutton on power-up.
But someone with more recent experience, or knowledge of a lin to the correct part i nthe manual, or maybe the phone support for the Nexus should / might know precisely which key combo triggers factory hard reset.

Pity I'm not anywhere near you, I'd definitely give fixing it a go...
