Question for the techies - Video driver crashes
10 years ago
So I reinstalled Windows 7 yesterday.
The reason is that my nvidia kernel driver crashes.
It began roughly 2 weeks ago after a few weeks of stability. Another sign WAS (which is now working again) that windows refused to download a few updates due to error messages. My rig has been rather funky from the get-go but this is now at the point where I no longer can play any games out of fear of crashing.
Anyway, the symptons:
Kernel driver crashes, taking usually the game as well as firefox with it. Meaning the game has to be ctrl alt del to end it and the same with firefox as all that remains when I focus on the browser windows is that it is entirely white.
My specs:
PSU: Coolermaster G750M 80Plus
Mainboard: ASUS Maximus VI Extreme C2 Z87
CPU: Intel Core i7- 4770k 3,5Ghz
CPU Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H80i
16GB DDR3 2400Mhz Kingston HyperX Beast Kit (2x8GB)
GPU: ASUS GTX 760 Direct CU II 2GB GDDR5
- I also have an older HD as my OS partition, would have to open the rig to check that
The drivers are the current ones. I use Kaspersky as an anti virus software.
Crashes before and after the new installation:
- Mechwarrior Online
- Cities: Skyline
- FireFox even without any other games running.
Applications running 24/7 (meaning I have those always going due to chatting and so on)
- Teamspeak 3
- AOL Instant Messenger
- Skype
- Steam
I am at my wits' end. The fresh install did only help for about 1 day. Crashes are not predictable. It may be that I can play/game for hours without any issues and then it crashes every 5 minutes after getting back into the game.

Windows Update error 800B0100
And I ran this:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/.....#1TC=windows-7
Afterwards, it gave me this error:
Windows Update error 8024200d
Anyway, this problem NO longer occurs after the reformat, so that's that. That aside, I only installed my GPU drivers after I did all of the windows stuff.
So your suggestion is to wipe all the nvidia drivers and then do a clean install minus geforce experience plus the scan prompt?
As for the updates that failed before the new install, it were two windows security updates, sometimes from the last 10-14 days. (which are now installed so I can't tell you any more details, sorry)
And the crashes are, kinda, random? It seems like it picks a crash of the week and sticks to it and then moves on. I also had a few other issues now... windows hanging itself up (not just the explorer, it STATED windows is not reacting), blu ray player not opening after inserting a disc and using it or not closing and the system32 folder opens when i reboot/start the computer up, right after starting windows.
