FWA Report / Future Cons
General
I got back from FWA today and i'm happy to say the con was a lot of fun! The commissions I got will be posted later today. I'll give you some highlights below:
Thursday: I wouldn't have been in the lobby if I hadn't needed to ask the front desk about where to go to receive packages (somehow forgot my laptop at home and it was being shipped to me), but when I was down their, I ran into
facerot, who is a fun guy with a cool fursuit and gross art. Later, I played Cards Against Humanity and the cards seemed to fit perfectly with the theme "Welcome to FWA."
Friday: I got to say hello to
rukis again and I held back from talking her head off about Off the Beaten Path. I also saw
Donryu again and commissioned him and
ToonFX. They were both cool dudes who I hope to see at future cons. The Conservators' Center, the charity for the con, had Tut the fennec fox with them, and he was adorable! I attended a lot of writing panels at this con, most of them hpsted by
rechan and
nighteyes, but I had a lot of fun at the Adult Furry Fiction panel thanks to a little talk about bad euphemisms.
Saturday: I learned how to play Shadow Hunters. When most of the characters were in the Church section of the board, "Take Me to Church" by Hosier came on, which was amusing. I also met and commissioned
coconutmilkyway and she's a cool artist i've had my eyes on for a while in terms of getting a commission. I hope to get more work from her in the future. In the panel on World Culture and History in Furry Writing, we discussed how trench warfare would be different if one side was comprised completely of ferrets.
Sunday: I met
Kour, another cool person whose art i've admired for a while now. I also got to hang out with Facerot and lots of other folks (I didn't get all the names, so if you folks are reading this, let me know so I can follow you here!). I haven't met folks in the fandom who I can just hang out with. It's nice to be able to go off and do my own thing, but it can also get lonely. My con experience and my connection to the fandom felt more complete because of this, so thank you guys! I also participated in a Mario Kart tournament. Despite showing up late and having not played the game in months, I placed second in my group of four. Not good enough to move on, but I was happy with my performance, especially since two of the levels were from the DLC, which I haven't downloaded yet. Finally, I participated in a short writing workshop, which was probably my favorite writing event at the con.
I got a lot of complements on my characters, I was a lot less shy about taking pictures of fursuiters, and the hotel was connected to the mall, so getting food was convenient. I also like the theme for next year's FWA. I don't know if i'll be going, but i'd like to.
Speaking of future conventions, I was thinking about Fur The More, but i'll be with my family around the time of the con, so I won't be there. I've been thinking about moving out west after the lease is up in July on the house i'm in now. If I end up moving to Colorado in July, I could hopefully go to RMFC. If I end up moving to Washington, then I hope to be at RF. Even if I don't move to Washington, I hope to be at RF to pick up the Sword and Sorcery anthology, where you can find my short story "The Pendant of Westbriar Swamp."
