Art news; and also I ramble about Chappie for 3 paragraphs

Still here, still drawing silly nonsense drawings of Kree ;)
I feel like I should be drawing more once-off drawings and doodles and stuff, but every time I get a nagging voice in my head saying "yeah, but you could be drawing more comic pages instead and get that nonsense finished quicker". I'm not sure if the stupid week/month long delays between pages really count as "quicker", but hey not everyone arts at the same speed…
So uhh.. other news I guess? Letsee… oh yeah!
Chappie was an awesome movie, :) I went back and saw it again before the stupid cinemas around here shuffled it out for more time-slots for boring stuff. I enjoyed District 9 heaps, and was entertained by Elysium in spite of its weak plot, and hell I'm usually sold on any movie with non-villainous robots in it :P Fist-bumpin' rooobots!
Still, critics can suck an egg, I like films that don't have to fit into an easily-described formula. I find I have more fun with a movie the less I read about them anyway, so I'm even less interested in reading movie reviews now, after the hate this movie got. I'm not even sure how to describe it? Two gangsters accidentally adopt and raise an adorable innocent AI born into a discarded robot shell.
I started out completely disinterested in the human characters (apart from the adorkable programmer :P ), but by the end of it I was rooting for them. People I would normally avoid like hell in real life. I only found out afterwards that they were indie rap artists essentially roleplaying their stage personas. That's probably one of the reasons why critics judged it harshly, but personally I think it just adds to the charm of Neill Blomkamp's unique style of filmmaking.
Okay wow, so I pretty much just rambled on about one movie there. Bonus prize for anyone who actually read this far: feel free to ask me whatever question you want, any new or old topic :V

FA+

And yep, Chappie was awesome
I saw this adorable drawing on tumblr recently, for example :D
As for "triggers"… hmm… I'm not sure if I have a particular preference there. I suppose I lean slightly towards "magic"-based stuff, mostly because I like TFs that are aesthetically-pleasing, or have a thematic tie in to a story. I usually prefer symmetry in the TF when possible.
I do enjoy when the Hunter becomes the Hunted, or someone gets some comeuppance and perspective when they're TFed into a critter they hate. Peace and harmony through the power of TFs! :3
I'd think of more examples but I've stayed up past midnight so my brain's a little fuzzy right now XD
Oh I just thought of another trigger I like, gradual TF via expose/proximity to magical items. For example an idea I had a while back where a human finds a cool full body mech suit designed for a an anthro cobra-like species. He wears it so long for days on end that he eventually grows a tail and other features without noticing :P
Take your time, do whatever you want. Sometimes allowing the inspiration to sit and stew helps to get something crazy-awesome to surface.
Movie and videogame critics these days are pretty funny. Really opinionated people in charge, so you can never really trust reviews.
If I see something I like, I love turning a blind eye to media and fans, then go see/play the movie/game on my own as a bit of a surprise or something.
We're really stuck in this "cookie-cutter" film era. People are literally brainwashed into thinking some of this garbage is good because hype or media.
I feel like they're literally checking individual movie cliches off a list as they write the screenplay.
Sometimes, though, those movies are great. Turn off your brain and go into a film without a care in a world.
I like to think I'm indifferent with these sorta things, but I'm pretty opinionated as well :x
Chappie sounds like an awesome dive.
Reminds me of the whole "Gorillaz" cartoon-characters-as-the-band deal. That stuff is fun, but I can see why critics would be turned off by that, I guess.
Also, I have never heard of Chappie, so I just skipped the three paragraphs to avoid spoilers so I can ask you what it's about, so on that note, what's it about?
A lot of my slowness is probably due to my job eating up most of my week, it's a bit of an emotional drain due to how boring it is. I think I'd probably like to find a different career sometime soon, web development is too boring for me.
But also I guess I'm just slow because I can't manage the same pace other speedier artists can. It takes me a while to get into the flow sometimes. I could probably get more practice and get better at it, but that probably requires a lot more time as well :V
But yeah, I went home wanting to see what other people had to say about the movie and how incredibly likable Chappie was, only to be pretty shocked at the horrible reviews it got =\
