I hate glitches

Ugh.. so I was almost done with the second YCH commission today and Sai decides to crash while I'm trying to save. More specifically, it says "failed to save canvas", then while I'm panicking trying to save as a different filename, it crashes. My previous save file no longer exists and now I'm back to the sketch. No lineart. No background. No shading. I'm back to the beginning.
I'm so mad
I'll finish it later

You can try changing the name by putting .sai at the end of the file to see if that works.

Won't fix what's happened, but might help mitigate shit like that in the future.
Though, I'm kind of pondering if there would be a simple, programmatic way of automatically backing up a file, based on a folder. Off the top of my head, the easiest already existing way to do that is to make sure your save destination is always in a Dropbox maintained folder. Dropbox maintains revisions of files that you can access from their web interface by right-clicking on the file and choosing Previous Versions.
It looks like Dropbox also has a fairly forgiving history, too - I just checked one of my files I've been editing over the last day, and I have seven revisions I can roll back through, and I am on a free account.
By any chance, are you on Windows 7?
The one really good thing about 7 that didn't make it to 8 is the previous versions feature.
You can usually right-click on an empty space in a folder, choose Properties, and there should be a Previous Versions tab there. It'll let you check a previous iteration of a folder's contents, just in case something corrupts the most recent save.
It's not a miracle worker, but it is a neat idea that might also help.
It's fine! I'll just redo it
