You don't want to think that way, but when so many people do that, you can't help out. You get hurt enough and 'I wish I had the money! ' turns from a kind thing to hear to, oh I'm sure (not).

Oh gosh yeah. It's like a kick in the metaphorical balls. "If your art was free or dirt cheap I'll want it.. but I'll go spend buckets of cash on this other thing instead." Makes yah feel worthless. I get this a lot. But when I say "Sorry I can't spend that much." or "I wish I had the cash. I'd swoop right up and get it!" I mean it.

Right now... I was super tempted to buy a MYO dreamy slot... but nope. Gonna continue to save up. I have things I need more then buying art. You can take my word on it. Even watch me for a while. Lol... Not gonna be buying anything any time soon. XD Not until I reach my goals.

Yeahhh :'D That's the feels I get. Granted I do nothing to sell art myself, but it happens to Ryn repeatedly and so when she's upset, I get upset.

She's one of those artists that if I become wealthy I would throw money at for arts. XD I have a list of peeps I would throw money art.. lol. Buuuut I'm not wealthy.... yet.

I hope I can do it!! Woo! My goal is to reach one of my goals before my birthday (September)... or at least before the end of the year. >:3 /slowly continues to draw adopts in the mean time...

Ohhhhh my gosh. I would NEVER do that to somebody wth. I am legit poor most of the time, but I wouldn't do that. The ONLY time I ever say "I would buy this if I had money" is if I had the intent to do so, or the artist was doubting themselves due to poor sales. I ALWAYS feel bad about not being able to commission people or buy designs but I wouldn't give someone false hope like that. I usually have the bad luck of people I want to commission being open when I'm broke, and when I DO have money, they aren't, or I need it for other things. But that is like a punch in the gut to do.

Oh man haha, that just happened to me a bit ago, or something close. Was saving up money because the artist's commissions are particularly pricey, but then boom got kicked in the kneecap with money issues so I was going to hold off till I could toss the cash around-- and then they closed forever.

i've sees that happen so often and it really, *really* has always bothered me to the point that i end up feeling very sour about people who i've caught doing it.; i had it done directly to me several times before too and man it just rubs me all the wrong ways. way to make me feel like my stuff wasn't worth it.
seriously though they could even word it differently- or just not mention the money at all- just a simple "wow these are great! good job!" would be better than making the artist feel unsatisfactory

Like, I know it goes both ways and some people genuinely mean it when they say "I really wish I had the money to buy this," Or they'll be broke one week and suddenly loaded with cash the next, so then they CAN spend money on another design or commission, even if it's twice the cost of what you were offering.

But it's so disheartening to see the same people who, moments earlier, were crying that they didn't have the money for a commission or design, placing 200 dollar bids on someone else's artwork. :/ To me, this doesn't say "I love your art and I'd like to buy a piece from you when I'm more financially set", but instead "I'd buy your art if I thought it were worth my money." I'd honestly rather the person didn't comment at all, if that's the case. At least leave my self esteem in tact.

I'm rarely too bothered about it just because, like..
people have priorities. sometimes they have been saving up for a certain adopt for so long that that money they have is basically already 'promised' to that purchase when they get it.

people who repeatedly say things like that, though?
they do really annoy me. it feels like a guilt trip to lower prices because they KNOW you're not as in demand as someone else?
because they see you as an easy target or something idk

I didn't think of that, and that could be true considering sometimes the other things they go for are always pricey so they need the money-

Buuutttt... there are a few who do it repeatedly. 6m9 Repeatedly. And it gets to a point where you kinda want to make a post or extra tag in the artist comment like hey I'm sure 75% of you mean well but please don't posts comment like, 'I wish I had the money, but...'. I know some artists do that already, especially when only one person buys an adopt and 6 others say they have no money.

To the first bit tho, ye, never thought of that. Will keep it in mind 'w'

yeah I have no tolerance for repeat offenders because it does just come across like they're trying to manipulate you into lowering your prices if it's the same person over the span of a month or more saying the same thing

Well it's understandable if someone actually doesn't have the money, or if they tell someone they can't spend 50 bucks, but then they go spend 10 bucks elsewhere. I'm not upset at all. Hell, I'm not upset if someone tells someone who is offering 50 bucks for a full body commission that they wish they could afford it but can't- and turn around and buy the same thing from someone else for cheaper. I know some artists are put off by it, but if you can get what you want from someone else for cheaper, that's saving? I'm still sure if they had the cash to blow, they'd eagerly buy from the more expensive person.

It's just when someone tells the person who is selling 50 dollar adopts/commissions/what have you that 'they really wish they could afford this!' then turn around moments later and drop 150 dollars on someone elses adopts/commissions that it stings.
Catling has opened my eyes to the possibility of them having originally been saving up for the more expensive thing, but when it's people who continue to say, 'I wish I had the money', then continue to drop hundreds of dollars on someone else instead, it starts to hurt a little, you know?
