My 'furry' pet peeves...
It's come to my attention that I have these few pet peeves that apply to/in the furry fandom. Most of the time it applies to non-experienced suiters or the younger groups of people, but it still drives me berserk. Here's a few:
1) A lot of the beginners tend to get their materials, foam/shape/cut out the head, and then take video's of themselves talking about what they're gonna do. However, the whole time they have the head on and turn it back and forth and back and forth, the whole video being a pointless 5 minutes or longer. I can understand if you need to 'test' how it looks in the camera and make sure it looks even and decent... but to talk about your plans and life and struggles and everything while wearing it like it's finished and then upload it to youtube? No. Just stop. Please.
2) This sort of goes along with the first... When people foam the head and decide to make dance videos with nothing but this giant block of foam on their heads. Nothing else. If they could dance, that would be something, but most of them can't. It's just sad, pathetic, and irritating. Like, just fur the dumb thing to get it over with! XD
3) People who don't wash their suits. Like... what part in their heads thinks that their suit looks or smells good after wearing it for an entire weekend?! Their feet are filthy, the smell like B.O. and they're no longer cute. I have a partial, and even at that I'm constantly worried that I'm gonna smell bad! I made my suit about a month ago and have washed it twice because I'm so scared it's gonna smell bad or look bad. XD Also the people who pay thousands for their suits... how do you not panic about it looking bad?! Like, I want my suit to be in tip-top shape, not look like I just found it in the garbage. Just pay a dollar to wash the darn thing and take 30 minutes to scrub off the face and feet. Simple as that.
4) Ruining the magic. BAD. When people think it's totally fine to wear just a head, paws, tail, and feet, but wear shorts and/or short sleeves with it, skin completely exposed. To me, it just doesn't look good. At all. If I ever do it, it's to be funny around my friends or just to mock how weird it looks. XD But if people do it seriously? I dunno. That's just a little strange to me.
That's all that come to mind right now.
What are your pet peeves in the fandom? I'd love to hear them!

4 I definitely agree with you on. I can't take matted fur and even though Eclair came to me with soiled paws, I tried my absolute hardest to at least get them faded enough to where it isn't totally obvious. Fursuits are one of the most major investments a furry can make in this fandom, why is it so hard to try and keep them clean? There's a multitude of tutorials, recipes, and reviews on what cleaners work well, what doesn't, and what stuff can or cannot be used as a disinfectant for con suiting. In my earlier days in the fandom (11-12 years ago), many people used Lysol inside their heads because it was an antibacterial. Now, it's frowned upon because of the obvious adverse effects towards the suit head, the balaclava inside of it, and the health of the wearer could be at risk. Heck, there's many fursuit makers who market disinfectant spray out of alcohol, water, and essential oil ratios. Really nifty thing that didn't exist years ago. :)
I don't like the misconception that the ticket to "popularity" in this fandom is just by owning a fursuit. Usually there's a personality behind those suits that compliments the suit itself and comes across as memorable. This also leads into my other personal pet peeve is that some suiters just have no personality and instead shuffle about awkwardly lmao
And yes, I do sing this song in my head at every single con.
Of course a lot of people dont do this, its usually is a beginner thing. They will grow out of it and learn, but in the mean time you dont /have/ to watch their videos. If your really so against it Id say just ignore it and move on.
IT DRIVES ME NUTS when people show skin when they wear partials though I am with you on that one ughhh. Just wear a jacket or something people it doesnt look natural when you have your human skin showing with big ol' paws at the end of your limbs. Reminds me of stick figures lol
Hahaha yes! I really don't understand the showing skin! Like, how do you feel comfortable?! When I suit, I wanna cover up my human-ness, not expose it. XD
Nothing better than that stinky matted fur. Because that's what everyone wants to hug!
