I have like 2-3 yds of mongolian charcoal grey... It looks 'alright' shaven down from what I've seen, and it really smooths out when brushed. I can ship mine out to you for less than Fabric.com would charge, but it's up to you whether you want to use that or not. I'd wait and see what other people say about it first, as I've only worked a little bit with it :x

How short do you need? Mongolian will look crap shaven down, in my opinion. There is a charcoal grey seal fur I use a lot from crscraft if you want to go quite short. Or if you have the budget there's a beautiful one from fauxthrow in the UK. There's also one that's about 1" from stylishfabrics.com but it's sort of greasy and not the best quality.

Well I'm looking to make 2 separate partials. I'm not needing the pile to be so short in general, more important to be that nice dark charcoal gray. Ideally 2" would be perfect.

I've used it on a suit, before I learned my lesson, where I had a lot of shaving to do. Mongolian can be a bitch to shave if you need to do it over a large area. It can get shorter and still be dense but depending on your trimmers it may be inconsistent since the fibers are dense. I have also witnessed this fur killing a trimmer because the dense soft fibers jammed up the blades. This is definitely a fur to watch your trimmers temp on. Not trying to make it sound like a disaster because to be fair, I have used small areas of Mongolian where I didn't need to be ultra short simply because the color was perfect and shaved it down carefully to decent effect, but a whole head where I needed to shave short short was a bad idea on my part. I'm actually re-furring that head with shorter pile furs.

TLDR if you have a lot of intense shaving to do, I'd think of using a different fur.

Aww you don't have to! XD I just don't want anyone else to have to suffer with a large mongolian shaving surface. << Seriously, it's soft and wonderful don't get me wrong, but honestly it's fiber density is just too much and I'd hate for you to end up overheating your trimmers. Especially because it requires many more passes compared to other furs.
