.......BEGIN TRANSMISSION.......
People don't read my shit anyways, so whatever. This is important to me at least.
I had just left the parking garage on campus when the battery indicator turned on. After driving for a good ten minutes more, the antilock brake indicator (ABS) lit up. Within two minutes from that, the seatbelt indicator turned on, flickered, and turned off again while the ABS light flashed slowly. Within another minute, my instrument panel turned off completely and all my gauges turned to completely counter clockwise and stopped functioning. At this point, I was only a half mile from the exit, so I manuevered to it and was able to get up the off ramp. After the light turned green, I made a left turn, and drove about 50 feet more before I lost the engine completely and rolled to a stop, in the left most lane on the middle of the freeway bridge. I called AAA and had a tow truck come. By the time they arrived, my hazard lights had stopped working. As soon as my truck actually stopped functioning and I parked in the road, I popped the hood and found that my positive battery terminal was covered in corrosion.
My first suspicion was that this was the cause of the problem. My battery corroded enough to break the electrical connection, then my alternator took over as long as it could (Starting when my ABS light turned on).
I also suspected that perhaps my serpentine belt had snapped, but a quick inspection showed that wasn't the case.
The tow truck came and I showed the man the terminal. He cleaned it and reconnected the battery, and we tried to start the engine, but the battery was dead.
Next step was to try and jump it. We hooked up cables and tried starting the engine again. This time, it kicked and turned over just fine, and everything seemed good. As soon as we disconnected the cables though, the battery indicator dropped immediately to nothing amd the truck shuddered before the engine stopped again.
My current suspicion is that the alternator is dead completely. I have my truck in a shop overnight (arrived right before closing) and will have further details in the morning.
Comments welcome and appreciated.
Tldr; truck is dead and being repaired tomorrow. I'll be driving my mom's car until further notice.
