I'm kinda wondering what's going on here, since Spain has been sited as having some of the highest levels of LGBT acceptance, as well as full domestic partner and adoption rights.

Also, do they have any US citizenship, or do they have relatives here who can sponsor them? If not, there is no way they can get a work visa, in the US. Student visas are a possibility, but they don't entitle the person to work off-campus (and of course student visas expire at the end of their terms, or when the student is no longer attending school with the require class load. There are ways of getting work visas, but there's no way to pay for one. There's the green card lottery, but that requires chance and time. There's sponsorship, but that requires immediate family members in the US. There's the idea of marrying into the US, but that requires them finding US citizen spouses. There's other ways, open to the very wealthy, who can buy their way in, but that requires millions of dollars, business plans, etc.
