Better to risk losing a friendship than to idly watch as someone destroys themselves. At least, that's what I believe.

i would say something. if for no other reason than simply because you don't want to look back in life after this friend made a terrible mistake thinking that you could have done something. That is just my take on it.

hmmm, true. I guess if I don't say something, and they get hurt, I'll feel somehow responsible if only a little.

You've just got to be up front and say it. It sucks watching people do stuff like that to themselves, but sometimes it's better to risk having a friend be mad at you than to not say anything at all.

i agree with the other two commenters. completely. talk to your friend.
tell them how you feel let them know everything.
and let them know sooner then latre.. you might have lost the friend before but take the risk.. you wont truely be losing them either if you are true with yourself and with them and tel them exactally how you feel.. just tell them yoiu would like to give them some advice and weather they take it or not is up to them.. but tell them you want to talk to them personally and you really hope they hear you out and that you care about them.

As one who as lost two friends down their own path to destruction, you need to talk to your friend. Yeah you may risk losing a friend but you will have at least given them a chance to see whats coming and turn themselves around.

I've seen this more times in my days then I care to count. And they mostly end exactly how you describe it, they get pissed and screw off and leave untill what you saw comes true, and then come back all sorry once their hurt.

It's an endless cycle, its just how things go. Tell them if you wish, but expect them to get huffy about it...its a path they want after all, and are set up on it for their own reasons and not always open to external views on a situation.

i think the only way you could really lose them is if you let it go and don't tell them they're hurting themselves.. and you.

even then don't blame yourself if they lose themselves and lose their minds or your friendship. it wont be your fault. i know from my own experiences it's hard to deal with.. i was both a person who was needing to hit rock bottom and the person who wanted to keep someone else from doing so..
so from being in that point all i know is if they ask for help. whatever you say in a helpfull way will help them. and they will realize it and thank you in their own way when they realize it all

I think that as a friend you are obliged to tell them how you feel.

It doesn't mean that they will listen, but in the end there is very little you can do about that.

I would help people if I knew the right thing to say. I just... can't make people happy no matter what. They're problems go deeper than me. If you can help someone, you should reach out to them. ):>

Okay this comes from my own personal experience but I've had it happen a couple of times where I told friends, one of whom was an ex-girlfriend, that they were doing things and acting ways that were not going to end well and it was hurting family and friends. They told me off and I lost friends...then of course they hit rock bottom and didn't want me to help...but they actually wanted me to fix it. and in so many words I told them i couldn't fix what they broke only they could and they wouldn't have had to if they'd listened to their friends and family in the first place. However I did tell them I'd help as much as I could...So I'm not a completely cold bastard.

Err point is, if they blow you off then it means they have to hit a bottom usually. But even then, sometimes they don't really care unless they lose absolutely everything.
