The show's got a (pardon language) absolute shit-tonne of freaky monsters. I don't half wonder if it was some of the inspiration for *wince* power-rangers & the like.
Might be worth a browse if you can stomach the awful dubbing for the UK version, or find the original!

Eh, that genre's older than we are, or at least in Japan it is. The shows Power Rangers and the like got Robotech'd from have been around since the 70s.

On this journal's topic though, even as silly as most of the monsters from those shows looked they did have some interesting designs sprinkled throughout.

Ooooh so many good ones already. Alright, well #1 on my list would be The Charr race from the MMO Guild Wars 2. Easily one of the sexiest races ever created as far as pushing all the right buttons for my tastes go. XD

Also love Godzilla - my favourite version of him being the 1991 Godzilla vs. Ghidorah version as that one had amazing definition, and huge well-defined footpaws. :3 Least favourite version would have to be the most recent American attempt at him with the 2014 movie. Awful, simply awful.

I liked that movie much better than the one with Matthew Broderick ;-; (just wished they focused on Godzilla a -lot- more because i didnt give two shits about the "human element/story." XD
But yes Godzilla definitely must happen :D

Yeah, that was problem #2 - you can actually watch the entire "Godzilla" movie in just 3.5 minutes if you watch only the footage of him. So... yeah, that was stupid. But then, he also looked stupid anyway, so no big loss. On the upside, Toho is making a new Godzilla film slated for 2016, so hopefully we'll see a return to a more proper looking Godzilla soon (with nice feet, w00t w00t).

And yes... Amen to 100x charr. I can't get enough of them - LOVE RP'ing them in game, love the art of them. And your art style certainly compliments them.

as for stuff from games and such, I don't know. none of those ever really grabbed me. You had the lion-like race from Wing Commander, the Kilrathi. You had the the ones from Unreal, don't remember their names with all the multiple arms and eyeballs. The Arachni from Mass Effect 2 which were spider-like. umm...I've been gaming since the early-80's and those are what I remember the most off the top of my head.

I'd say my all time fave is the squiddy sub-god from the finale to the first Hellboy movie. Im a sucker for some tentacles. Or ANY of the Colossi from Shadow of the Colossus.

Nemesis from the Game Biohazard 3, Vicar Amelia from Bloodborn, Pyramidhead from Silent Hill 2 and somehow to fight against The Patrearch from Killing Floor.

Leucrottoi from D&D and earlier Greek folklore (what happens when Greeks try to describe spotted hyenas based on something someone saw once).

Kappa, but I really like Simon Lee's interpretations of them in particular.

The Kif from Cherryh's Chanur series.

In terms of giant monsters, none approach the King himself.

Godzilla.

Gamera from the 90s movies is a good candidate as well...But he has never been as impressive as Godzilla.
