What a Lovely Day!

To any who have not seen it, I can't stress enough how good Mad Max: Fury Road was. As an avid lover of superhero movies and a huge fan of Marvel's comic films, it takes a lot for me to admit it, but I liked Fury Road better than the Avengers 2 this year. This movie harkens back to the days when practical effects and masterful stunt work and real pyrotechnics were the only way to do an action scene. You can see the pay off too, how much of an impact said practical effects makes. For those who remember the original Mad Max trilogy of films this movie recaptures the magic of the best of them, The Road Warrior, and ramps it up several more notches to somewhere in the range of 15 out of 10. Even the villain, Immortan Joe, reminded me in the very best of ways possible to the Humungus from the road Warrior. Menacing, larger than life, and you never ever get to really see his face for the film. Nothing but a half skull mask and his messed up eyes and hair. I always respect an actor who isn't so vain as to have to demand to have his face shown in a movie.
Tom Hardy was great in the role of Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron was equally impressive as Imperator Furiosa. In fact, the movie really doesn't have a single lead hero. Both of them share the spotlight equally and come across as the kind of heroes the horrid wasteland setting needs. So with that, all I can say without spoiling a thing of the film's story, action, and endless car chases and battles, is to see it. I'm sure you too will agree with Nux in the film.
"Oh what a day! What a lovely day!"
For those who wanna chit chat about the film or gush over it, feel free to do so below. Warning to others who haven't seen it, spoilers for the movie will likely show up. So... you have been warned.

;)
Some parts of the movie were what you could definitely call "stupidly awesome," alot like parts of Pacific Rim. Yes, they were ridiculous, but that didn't make them any less amazing, the biggest example being the giant drum truck with a heavy metal guitarist playing a battle theme for Immorton and his warband. Shit, if -I- was a post-appocalyptic warlord, I'D want a band truck following me whenever I went to battle.
Now I've heard some folks are claiming that this movie has a bunch of feminist overtones...frankly I think that's just stupid. Some have apparently gotten this impression from the fact Max had to share the spotlight with Furiosa; I have no idea why that's such a problem. She doesn't feel crowbarred into the story, her character feels like an integral part of the plot. Playing devil's advocate, I can see how some people might look at the way Immorton treats his harem of women like property and consider that an attempt to say "this is how all men see women," but that kind of interpretation would be a real stretch, I'd say. I just don't get the vibe from the movie that the message is meant to be "Men all want to oppress women."
Overall this was definitely a fun movie; maybe not Oscar material, but a good comeback for the series. Oh, and on a light, somewhat spoilery note...
You know that moment when Nux is driving alongside Immorton and he gets all fanboy excited because Immorton glances his way? I swear, the moment that happened, the first thing that popped into my head was:
"Somebody's gonna get on Tumblr and make a "Senpai noticed me!" meme out of this scene."
I also love films that are utterly unashamed to be insanely silly or poke fun at themselves, much like this. Fury Road was utterly ridiculous at some points, yet not once did the film apologize for those moments. It embraced its insanity and as a result, swept you up for the ride.
And yes... "Senpai noticed me!" Hee hee hee!
Furiousa only saves hot chicks. no room for fat chicks on the war rig 8D
This is essentially everyone's review of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZXBo4_N6tU
It better have Doof Warrior in it or I'll be pissed.

Also apparently the Doof Warrior guitar works both in that you can hook it up to an amp and it actually shoots flames controlled by a whammy bar. Because whammy.
Up for me I can't wait till the next Terminator movie and Jurassic World. Those two look awesome.
