Wanting to change a rule about Tropical Volatikai.

General
There have been several Tropical Volatikai made that have clashing colors that honestly wouldn't be on a Volatikai. It has been frustrating me for a while because I honestly don't know how to go about it completely, but I think I have one or two thoughts.
My first thought is that they must have at least some earthy, "natural" colors.
Another thought is that they need a mix of dark and lighter colors and that saturations can not overtake the colors on the character (meaning it shouldn't be more than 50% of the color).
I know many people, including me, have color troubles... but it's a little too much when a Volatikai is just full of saturated colors.
I know some birds have lots of bright colors, but since they are not birds I think I do have to restrict it some. There can still be markings like that of birds and insects, but saturated colors really shouldn't overtake the character. I feel like if I were to draw some of the characters, I'd have to change some colors by so much that it may not look like them, because I refuse to draw/color volatikai non-cannonly.
BUT I want your thoughts on this problem. Right now I can't leave it as is.
Should I give critiques on color and patterns?
Color in general with my Volatikai I've become relaxed with (like not staying exact to the color codes on my site. I need to update it!) but just some Tropical types have been out of hand. :c'

I can understand them being based off of tropical birds and insects more than others.
So they can still be based off of birds and anything, really, but some things will have to change.
Examples:
A volatikai can not look like this: http://funblogging.net/wp-content/u.....es-birds.7.jpg but could have some of the colors changed to something else.
While something like this is more okay: http://stuffpoint.com/beautiful-bir.....orful-bird.jpg
HOWEVER, the whole body can't be a saturated color. I feel like the primary color should be dark or natural/earthy tone looking.
This is closer to okay: http://www.wall321.com/thumbnails/d.....rto.com_70.jpg though it would still need an earthy color still.
Examples where it's just fine to be completely based off of a bird:

I hope this makes more sense!
I just want them more like mammals and not gone crazy with colors.

Bright, yet not overwhelming with earthy natural or dark tones worked in.
And I say you should. Since these are you creations, then you have a right too and it's not like you are going "RAWR DO IT LIKE THIS YOU PERSON", but like "I think you should change x and x". So go for it, I say. Friendly critique.
I do agree. I did mention before that for "sparkle volatikai" I'd just change up the colors if I were to draw them... but I just don't feel comfortable with them like it anymore. Design wise they should stay canon while other things can be non-canon.
But yeah! If you don't then that's respectable. Though it will be great to tell the person designing it before they establish the character, you know? When it's in the critiquing process before the volatikai is confirmed by you. Cause here always might be that one person who whines for no reason. -shrug- Personally I'd like it if this was enforced. All the bright colours might be eyesores.
bah...
Speaking of Tropicals, would Xaul still be okay? I mean, he's mostly dull-ashy colored, but I used some pretty flashy green on him 8'3
Yes, your guy is a perfect example of a Tropical that works. :3 See, when a saturated color like that goes with natural colors it can look amazing. But lots of saturated colors together looks really... auuugh. x-x;
;)
Also thanks! I do love things like that (with accent colors) which was precisely why I wanted to make a tropical. I'm happy you think so!
And I don't mind if you critique something as it is your species and I'm the type of person that would like to keep something canon. (But sometimes my drawing style will argue... ) I did list what species I based my coloring on as well. :3 Please do let me know if I do get anything wrong with your species as I said I don't mind. Others might but I don't.
