sorry to do another comic book journal so soon after the last one but I just finished reading Apocalypse Meow, or Cat Shit One and I must say it's a truely interesting piece of work.
It's sort of redwall/watership down with M16s and RPGs.
Or maybe Maus but with more realistic animal features.
It's manga that follows an american recon squad through the fighting in Vietnam. the twist... just like in maus every nationality is a different species. Americans are rabbits (apparently it's a pun on the japanese word for rabbit usagi, usa gi) Vietnamese are cats, the french are pigs, Koreans dogs, Japanese apes, and so on and so forth.
despite the fact that the chars are extremely cute

(check them out arnt they just the cutest jungle fighters you ever saw)
the comic is really very gritty, showing the brutality of the tet offensive and up to the pull out. I think the fact that it was done using such cute animals helps lend to it's impact. It's not something you expect to see bunnies engaged in a running gun fight through the thick jungle.
all in all a pretty good read I think with plenty of humor mixed in. as well as a good amount of background about the war mixed into the text

it looks awesome.
*chuckles*
The animated series takes place during the Iran hostage situation though so the squads code name of Cat shit one doesn't make much sense anymore since they are fighting camels
enjoy hon
