I am honestly considering doing commissioned work. Would be really nice to get in some extra money doing what I enjoy. Any advice on how to go about getting started with that?
First thing I imagine you need is a paypal account or some other way of actually receiving money from your commissioners. Paypal's website should probably explain it, but if not, you can ask your favorite artist who takes commissions.
The second and probably hardest part is deciding what to charge. How much for a simple black and white drawing? A colored piece? Multiple characters? Backgrounds or no backgrounds? Do close up shots cost less? Do certain effects cost more? This part is all up to you and should be a balance between how much your time and work are worth to you and what you think people would be willing to pay.
And the last part is probably advertising/deciding how many commissions you'll take on at once. Some artists limit themselves to only a few commissions at one time so they don't have too many waiting clients. It depends on your speed and motivation. The advertising is simpler: post a journal with your prices, examples of things at each range, and things you will do/not do. After that, you can make a piece of art literally titled 'Open for Commissions' and submit it with a link to your 'Commission Info' journal, giving you exposure in whatever category you list it under (I imagine and hope it''s Transformation :P )
I hope this gives you a start for things to think about. I'm really excited to see how you do and hope this works out for you! I might even be tempted enough to commission! ^_^
