i was in my teens in the 60s. so i remember seeing all the write-ups when it was done. (there was an article in trains, may have been more then one in model railroader and/or rmc) the idea wasn't really practical for anything other then a publicity stunt. but the nyc did have, pen/central/conrail/amtrak still has, this long streight section called the weter level route, where they could do that. they could only fire it up on the streights and only did it a few times.
yes there are model building articles for it, and there's even, someone built a riding gauge version (7.25 i think) of it too, i forget whether in asia or europe somewhere, but i remember seeing in on youtube within the last year or so.
