I agree with that statement too.

To put it in purest terms, it's a way for people to support artists. Some artists set one up due to the request of their followers.

If other artists want to set it up for tips and post pictures regardless, fair enough. It's optional.

If other other artists wish to set it up as a premium service for only those who support them monetarily, fair enough. An artist doesn't have to do anything for free regardless of if they did before. People following them don't have to lay money down, as there's plenty of other galleries to hop to that are maintained for free. Things staying as they are is more likely than a slippery slope, patreon crop fest.

I've got mixed feelings about it to be honest. I feel it's great for people who want to work on long term projects such as comics and flash games, and offer incentive to their patrons via early access to the stuff. But at the same time too many people these days are using it as a means to put work that they'd otherwise be posting to their galleries behind a paywall. It's basically extending a big middle finger to all of their watchers. "Want to continue enjoying my art? Fork over 5 bucks a month, bitch." Yeah no. Fuck you.

Yeah when an artist goes patreon only for complete art works with only crops here I unwatch. Already debating Unwatching Aaron because of all the patreon crap even tho he still posts commissions here
