Yeah man absolutely. But I suppose as long as you're adjusting, that means you're learning from your mistakes, and that's a positive thing!

Yeah, unfortunately this is why most artists charge up front, some folks will take advantage if they can. I think your updates are perfectly reasonable!

Up front payment has always been the best way at keeping scammers at bay- I tried to be lenient a few times myself and promptly got burned for it. It never hurts to be too careful- lot of good folk understand so it's never an issue.

Yeahh, I'm starting to realize that for sure. And initially I was worried about my own skill and not being able to complete whatever was thrown at me, but I've realized that's not much of an issue either -- it just took experiencing it for a little bit.

Haha, I see it as fortunate instead of unfortunate. The only people who were stingy was the ones you tried to offer your services, time, and shared effort & skills to, only for them to slap your hand away.

Always glad to see an artist taking payment upfront, as I do the same as well. The risk of doing work without payment, with someone running away with even wips/sketches is too high in general. Some people want free art so bad, they will do irresponsible, disrespectful and inconsiderate stuff like that. It's always nice to see a lot of people not doing it, but it's always better to put a cork in the bottle early in regards to those who will do it.

Can't disagree with that! And I knew I was going out on a limb delaying payment, but I will say I'm truly surprised by the folks that ended up ripping me off or that otherwise had very little commission etiquette -- largely active artists that seem to take commissions themselves. Surprise surprise.

But anyway, thank you for the input! 8D I definitely feel more confident about this decision now.

I don't blame you for being surprised. Those artists that had the nerve to scam you despite doing commissions themselves, are probably not very well versed in the commission business or has no respect for business and artists in general to do that. Those that weren't artists is less of a surprise since I've too many non-artist peeps having too much disrespect for artists as it is.
