I didn't know him as well as others but I did meet him and stayed in the same house as him for short visits. He even brought me my insulin to the airport when i forgot it once. Always with the jokes and snappy chatter. He will be missed.

Like it or not his work was unique.
He'll be remembered for his work and for a certain type of pic that older fans knew was his (even when it was someone else doing it.)
Hope that made sense because I mean it as a compliment.

I remember running into Doug Winger's art near on to twenty years ago. Whether or not you like his subject matter (I did), he was a talent and will be fondly remembered.

I propose, denizens of FurAffinity, that we all sit down tonight and break out the sketchbooks in memory of Doug. It doesn't matter how crap the result is; if Doug can inspire us to try, then his legacy is secured. Best wishes, Mr. Winger.

My heart goes out to his friends and family. It's never easy to decide the life of a loved one when faced with the option of taking them off life support, and the decision can haunt you the rest of your life despite it being the best course of action. He was one of the first artists I stumbled upon when I got that new thing called "the Internet" back in the day, and probably one of the main reasons I became a furry

Wow! :/ I remember how I really wanted to hate him.. but then I actually met the guy at cons and ended up really liking him. Even though I generally disliked a lot of his pervy art, he was clearly a talented artist and highly detailed but what he fell short on for me in his gallery he clearly made up for in being an incredibly interesting and compelling conversationalist. I can honestly say that it hurts to hear that he's passed away. :(

I had hoped to meet him one day, in some capacity... his withdrawal from the fandom made me realise it would be unlikely. It is sad he is gone, but he created so much and influenced so many; his contributions to the fandom will endure.
