one last night of seriousness

from the recent supreme court ruling: the last two paragraphs, along with witnessing my cousin's marriage to his wonderful wife have gotten me thinking.
"No union is more profound than marriage, it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union two people become something greater than the once were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate it is a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it.
Respect it so deeply that they seek to find it's fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness excluded from one of civilization's oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right. The judgement of the court of appeals of the sixth circuit court is hereby reversed." *Sound of gavel bang*
This has gotten me thinking, While I spend my quiet nights alone making sandwiches... It's not the 50's anymore...
Instead of rushing into or forcing others into marriage after a few dates or spending lavish sums of money, and spending all this time trying to exclude people... It makes it cheap.
Since when did Disney define marriage? Since when did it go from the union of two souls in love for all eternity into something everyone has to do as soon a possible?
I think it should be something loving, something eternal, a bond between two souls. We can't mass produce it like we have cars, TV's, and hamburgers.
It's not "The gays" destroying marriage, if anything this ruling may be a step towards redeeming it. It's been this idea that it can, or should, be mass produced, expensive, exclusionary, institution.
Also... FUCK ISIS, I've studied history, religion, civics, politics, and military stuff since I was born... so I can say without a shred of doubt fuck them and all they stand for. They are the exact thing the term "savage" and "barbarian" were coined to mean, history runs over guys like these with a steamroller just wish they'd put some nitro on that roller.
Also restraints being put on the CIA use of torture via congressional law instead of just presidential forbiddance. Thank god Hope it passes. Fuck torture, america is above that primitive shit and it has never worked... we've documented it... and it doesn't work. All documents say our usable intel is gained from talking and convincing, while torture intel just sends us on wild goose chases and tarnishes our image, so jack bower's hollywood methods can suck mah robotic dick. *grabs robo-balls, drops mic*

Infact if I Had to be honest I think the global culture has been degenerating soo much that just the tough of a friendship has turned into a tough and difficult task.... both online and in real life.
People are growing more and more cynical... more "machine-like" and less humane by the day.
Everyone's forgetting even the simple basics of communication...
I personally think that my generation is completly fucked from the stand point of love/socialization/respect... (the list goes on).
It wouldnt surprise me if the number of soo called "40 years old virgins" will increase exponentially in these upcoming years.
I can only assume the worse for our future generations aswell....
That is if there is going to be -any- to begin with.
I look at this gay-marriage thing and... no matter how I try I just cant give a damn... With all due respect.
As far as I know this world has gotten worse problems to think and deal with.
So while I personally agree that it should be allowed, I'm really not liking how the method that was used to force these states into it. Eventually they would have either come around to change them via voting, with possibly a few states left over where those people who have a preference for the traditional setup could live. And contrary to what the news and such would present, not all people who are against gay marriage are bible-thumping idiots - I may not agree with them, but they don't hurt anyone by wanting to live in a place near people that they would think (correctly or incorrectly) are more relatable to them. Especially in the great plains area states (of which were the majority of those that still didn't allow it) where someone has far far fewer neighbors to have a choice of interaction with, outside urban areas. I've even seen gay and bi people who don't agree with it, with their personal, completely rational reasons.
And that's fine. I don't think anyone exists who doesn't have their own preferences for certain kinds of people, as much as some would deny it.
And ultimately, that last sentence is what I really think this ruling is about.
Again, the states where they disallowed it are mostly in the great plains area. If people moved out and decided to not move in there, the population would decline and states would have to change their policies to make themselves attractive places to live in order to sustain their economy. A few months ago I remember Washington was advertising the fact that they allowed gay marriage as an incentive for people to move there.
The main debate is really over how the 10th amendment applies to limit the supreme court's power, whether this was supposed to be covered by it, and how this could be used as a precedent in future cases to overturn the states' ability to determine what the best courses of action are to assist their individual populations.
Regarding the bedroom thing: that is 100% true, but what I was trying to get at is that a heterosexual couple may not necessarily want to be neighbors with a homosexual couple over another heterosexual couple just simply based on the fact that the common ground they would have is different, if not gone. The last thing many people want to do on their weekends is have to navigate some unfamiliar social territory when they'd rather do the standard married couple hangout of "husbands have a few beers together while the wives chat about gossip, health and appearance."
Just repeating for clarification: I agree in what the ruling was trying to accomplish. I think people who are that bothered by homosexual couples need to just deal with it if the couple isn't doing things that ANY couple would be looked upon as weird for. But people need time to adjust, and forcing them into it is a certain way to get them to push back. I'm hoping it's not used as an example of how the law applies in order to sneak through things that would be previously considered and overstep of federal government power. :s
It's really rare for me to see neighbors hanging out together and shooting the shit. It just doesn't happen anymore. At least in Las Vegas. IT's sad too, because I'd love to get to know some of my neighbors. But it is what it is I suppose.
