As for lifting off the turntable, it can be done (fairly) easily. Around the spindle of your turntable is something called an E-clip similar to the one [that is pictured here]. Most likely it'll just look like a 3/4 round washer. They are quite resilient, so don't worry about the next step.
Take a small bladed screwdriver (the ones that look like a -, not a +), and using that picture above as a guide, try to wheedle in the screwdriver tip into one of the openings of the e-clamp and lever it away from the spindle. As mentioned, they are pretty resilient, so be aware it could spring off with a little energy.
With the e-clip free, the turntable should now lift off (you might have to coax it a little, though). From there, you should (hopefully) see if there's an issue with the belt.
I got mine for $25 on eBay since it had "cosmetic" issues vs. the $100 retail they sell for. They're seriously cheaply made. The radio/control piece is a single integrated circuit.
