New bunny Chopper and his surgery
Some of you already may know that I got a new bunny from twitter
But Twitter leaves a bit tooo less space for further explanation so I take this space to explain a bit more where Chopper did come from and why we had to neuter him.
My dear Paul left us a month ago after a hard fight and I can just hope he is at a better place now.
Since that time Fennec (female sand colored bunny) was all alone. It's really not good for bunnies to live alone so I decided to find her a new partner. She is already 5 years so I did not want a young bunny, I wanted one in her age.
I searched around, called animal shelters and finally found an older bunny on ebay.. yes ebay. The photo there was already alarming. At tiny cage for an actually quiet big bunny- all alone.
I arranged a time to look at the bunny and an eventual pick up. The guy that looked after the bunny told me that he rescued it from his sister that actually just wanted to leave the bunny at a carstop because she got tired of it.
When I went there he only had some water in his cage and the cheapest bunny food out there. No fresh fruit or vegetabels and no hay. NO clue how he did survive that. And he was rarely to never allowed to leave the cage.
He actually looks like a bordercollie just as bunny - black and white with blue eyes and one floppy ear :) His name given by his past owner is Chopper
I took him home with me and beside that he had not enough muscels to even jump in the cage he seemed fine. The next day I let a vet check him and what us actually surprised he is super healthy. The only problem was that he still had his easter eggs >.>
It was the first time for me to have an unneutered bunny at home. So I tried to let him get to know the female (of course in an area where she could escape easily if she wanted to)
It was ... impossible. He would not stop trying to hump her (luckily she is spayed) even when she bit and scratched him (tired it for several hours). So I had to seperate them again. Next day I talked to a vet again and he said that the only thing I can do is to let him be neutered if I want to keep him and let him live with other bunnies. He also said, he would not stopp even when I tried it for longer.
So that was basically the only chance he has - or living alone forever >.> NOPE
( more info here http://rabbit.org/faq-spaying-and-neutering/ )
He had his surgery on last friday and he is doing excellent. Also he now gets all the healthy food bunnies can get and he actually loves hay. AND of course he is allowed to run around in the flat and soon outside again too :)
When the wound is healed and the hormones calme down (of course you can not switch them off at once, they are still in his blood) I will try to introduce him to Fennec again :)
But I'm positive that they will get along fine.
( I really try my best with english here, and I hope it is readable.. sorry for that)

I'm sorry for the loss of your bunny. I lost two last year. I am very happy to hear you were able to get a new friend. I had a rabbit that was really mean for a while. Got him neutered and now he is the sweetest thing. I am sure he will get along with your other bunny soon.

Females have been known to kill males that keep trying to hump them

OP
I didn't read that yet but I can imagine it. The males would rape them otherwise

Here's hoping they bond easily once he's recovered. And I had no problem understanding your English.

Best wishes and good luck. None of us can save the world but saving a small part of it helps.

Well done! Having him neutered was the right thing to do. I'll bet they become fast friends in the future.
