As much as I agree with the side that believes the flag is a horrible symbol, I don't believe that it should be just painted over on stuff like that where it was an Iconic part of the car and show. I love the Dukes of Hazzard and have no problem with the flag being there, because it isn't doing any harm in an outdated television show that has been nothing but reruns for decades.

Yeah for real. Everyone gets all butthurt about the flag all of a sudden JUST because it's a popular news story when it never seemed to bother most of them before. The flag is not a racist thing, it is a symbol of the south which at one point many people died making a stand for a new country they were trying to create. Did the south have slaves? Sure they did, but so did the north. Now everyone's all bent out of shape about a flag, which is all it is. A flag. Doesn't say KKK on it, doesn't have racial slurs or a picture of a lynch mob on it. But because the media (both conventional and social media) has blown it way out of proportion all of a sudden it's becoming a bandwagon thing. That seems so silly to devalue that car and foolishly cover up an image for the wrong reason just because of a media craze. People need to think for themselves. It's funny how the guy who owns the car had no intention to remove the flag prior to this media craze but now all of a sudden it's become the right thing to do. It's too bad they had to drag the poor car into this stupidity.

The Charger has undoubtedly been painted before, as it has been restored, and I'm sure it will be painted again. I don't like the flag one bit, but I'm kind of indifferent about what happens to the depiction of it on the roof. The flag wasn't on the General Lee in the new AutoTrader commercials containing it, and I haven't heard anybody complain about that. It should ultimately be up to the owner.

As for honoring the Confederate dead, I have to think there are better ways to do it than painting the roof of a car from a corny TV show filmed 115 years after the end of the war.

What kind of flag the people of South Carolina think best represents their state is, of course, their business.
As for the Dukes of Hazzard, it is just a TV show, and when it comes to tradition, yes, some people have really shitty traditions, but this is just getting stupid. Maybe you could make a case for the Dukes promoting dangerous driving, or a disregard for lawful authority, but I don't ever recall it promoting racism, and there are plenty of films and TV shows that actually did just that. There are also plenty of historical objects out there that have symbols of one despicable regime or another on them, yet most agree that for better or worse, those symbols are part of history, and should remain.

It was way more fun when nobody cared about the flag on the roof and just let Bo drive the damn car in the Silver State Classic. :)

I hope the museum owner gets it. That golfer clearly doesn't deserve to have it. Painting over that iconic car would be like trying to rewrite history. It's just wrong. He might as well rename the thing while he's at it because it won't be the General Lee anymore. ...Hell, there wasn't even any racism in the show as far as I know. To take some media fad over a flag, out on the car, is bullshit.

If he paints over it with the American flag, then he isn't changing anything... People often forget the American flag flew on slave ships and that the civil war was not fought "purely" over slavery.

The way the media is reporting things it sounds like a racist flag, and a white privilege gun shot some black people while dragging a deranged white man that had a bowl haircut around with them. Why aren't we blaming the guys shoes, and pants, and underwear for his actions as well?

Seriously... When did the blame shift from people being responsible for their actions, to pointing the finger at inanimate objects?

it should have been in a museum to begin with. I'm not even a fan of the show or crazy about the Dodge Charger, but I'd hate to see an iconic car lose its originality.
