A month of Hell...
You know that old adage: "If it looks/sounds to good to be true, it probably is"? Well, my life has been looking like that. It's been a month of hell....
Mom and I placed Dad in a private care facility, paid for solely by us, around Memorial Day. We really thought that the dark cloud above us was finally starting to clear. That cloud turned Stormy dark in just a couple weeks...
June 13th evening: Dad had a blackened toe. He was transferred to the hospital, and discovered gangrene in his foot.
June 15th: He had surgery to remove the 4th toe on his right foot.
June 17th: Dad was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the Hospital for stress on his heart. In addition, my mentally handicapped aunt fell and hit her head at 'her' workshop. Subsequently, she was transferred to the ICU at another hospital with a brain bleed, possibly needing surgery.
Since then, Dad has been in-and-out of a rehab facility near the hospital. My aunt was released after 5 days in the hospital to another rehab facility not far from the one Dad was in. She is receiving Occupational, Physical, and Speech therapy; and is finally showing some signs of improvement. Dad, however, has been back-and-forth between the rehab place and the hospital for heart problems and... he entered the violent stage of Alzheimer's, punching and biting staff. He is currently back at the rehab facility. His Diabetes is out of control, his bad kidneys are getting worse, and he's on three different medications to curb the aggression... he's had multiple episodes of very bad aggression....
Dad was on the waiting list for the state run veteran's home; and Mom got the call last week, saying that they had a bed for him. However, given his condition, he cannot be moved; and they had to give his slot to someone else. Because of his aggression, the veteran's home now wants updated medical records concerning his present condition and aggression. They say because of the aggression they may not be able to take him... AT ALL. So, we don't know what's going to be happening next.
Mom and I cringe every time the phone rings, because we're both pretty sure that something else has gone wrong with Dad... This sucks... I thought for sure that once Dad was out of the house we could put our lives back together, and he's still controlling the strings. The worst case scenario is that Dad comes back home, and as it stands, the worst case scenario has a large enough chance of happening...

Things have gotten a little better. Aunt has recovered and is back in her residential. Dad's diabetes and aggression are under control as well.
