2D animation really isn't appreciated anymore... :/

There will always be someone, picking up the style and carrying it on. Maybe not Disney, but they weren't the only good animators on the planet. If they want to close such a big part of their history, so be it ^^

Look for the ones that say "traditional" and you'll have many more movies to discover. I can recommend a couple, if you'd like.

I respectfully disagree. Perhaps you're just used to 2D animation, but to me 3D gives me the same experience. It is a shame we'll never get to see the 2D format again, but I'm not heartbroken. The nostalgia is taking over for you, my friend :p

Would you watch donald duck in 3d for example? I had seen some of it and it was pretty bad,and no it wasn't nostalgia.

It actually costs more and mistakes that happen take alot more time to be fixed than in 3d animation. Time is money and it demands resources. Nowadays, I imagine they have a mix of traditional media and pc media, but the animators themselves need way way way more time to draw something. In 3d, you make the models and do the rough movie, then they render each picture. It takes less time by a milestone to the point that it makes no surprise that amateur animation is most times done with the 3d media (since it's easier, faster)

This is the second time this happens with disney in particular. Before 101 Dalmatians, they fired most of their inking staff, so if you watch the movie, you will actually see the sketch lines are still there in most scenes.

Come on really? That's just no fun. I mean yes it's a pricier format but 2D movies have shaped a lot of what Disney has done. Plus a lot of the best classics were 2D and now they are taking that away? Nice work Disney

it is a shame though 3D (at least when pixar does it) still looks amazing and get tug on your heart strings.
that said ive always had a love/hate with anything CGI (more so in life action though) mainly cause i can see the flaws much more than 2D

Disney originally shut down their 2D animation studio in early 2004; "Home on the Range" was the last 2D movie relase until "The Princess and the Frog" (2009). So it wouldn't surprise me if they brought it back again (again).
